The idea I'm working with is that the PC's won't realize he's a villain until they're starting to approach his lvl, so until then he's actually going to be an ally and mentor for the party. What I have thus far is that he is the leader of a small independent mercenary group/warmage academy. He's based in a fort overlooking a small city, that he provides defense for at the cost of living expenses being provided. He seems to be Lawful Neutral, and is in fact Lawful Neutral, but is troubled be the chaotic nature of humans in general. He has the Axiomatic Heritage Feat, explaining his rigid need for laws and hatred of chaos. If it helps in making his character, here's a rundown of his stats. Str 14 Dex 13 Con 15 Int 16 Wis 12 Cha 17 Concentration 10 ranks Intimidate 10 ranks Knowledge (arcana) 10 ranks Knowledge (history) 10 ranks Profession (Engineer) 10 ranks Spellcraft 10 ranks His selected feats are Axiomatic Heritage, Improved Initiative, and Leadership. His followers make up a Faction within this organization that are zealous in there service to him. His cohort is a lvl 6 Fighter/Sorcerer divided evenly, who is lawful good, but will eventually change alignments based on the PC's actions. So yeah, any ideas? And any suggestions on the name of his mercenary groups name? |

The players don't get to know it fairly often so its only important in how it helps you determine his reactions to any given event. If you want more consider that he is a careful planner who likely underwent a long if fairly straightfoward plan to acheive his position. Backstory should focus on how that plan went about. I had a similiar yet opposite character once. George Wallace was a hexblade I played who was CN. He had huge plans for his life. He was going to become an adventurer and use those funds to start a mercenary organization. That orginazation would train other hexblades and eventually find a nation that would grant him autonomy as part of a longer lasting contract. In the end he planned on retiring to the life of headmaster in a school of his own design which would teach the arts of blades, magic, and death. Your villian most likely had similiar plans but they have now come to fruition and he is now preparing to take them further. He may well be a follower of tyranical philosophies and intend to create a bastion of law in the area. |
