| Epicuris06-22-04, 01:38 PM | I've agreed to join a home-brewed campaign. The DM has said he will allow psionics, but only as a rare natural ability (mind-flayers, etc.) and will not allow psionic classes or items. With that in mind, I came up with this character and would like some opinions. We used the Elite Array for ability scores. Newmade Acrain, Male Elan Wiz1: Str - 8 Dex - 14 Con - 10 Int - 15 Wis - 12 Cha - 11 Alignment: NG HP: 6 Power Points: 2 Skills and Feats: Concentration +4, Diplomacy +2, Knowledge (arcana) +6, Spellcraft +6; Scribe Scroll, Psionic Body. Acrain grew up on a world other than the one he finds himself on now. Prior to his life as an Elan, Acrain was a simple scribe with a friendly demeanor, as quick to crack a joke as have a tidbit of knowledge to share. When he reached 30, he was approached by two individuals (Elans, but Acrain did not know that at the time) which seemed to take a particular interest in him. As the time passed and an odd freindship grew between them, the individuals explained the truth of their existance and offered Acrain a new beginning as one of them. Acrain accepted. The psionic ritual that would change Acrain from a human into an Elan took place on another plane, a small pocket dimension that the Elan enclave believed they could work uninterrupted. They were wrong. Moments after the ritual was completed, a group of mind-flayers that had been a particular thorn in this enclave's side inflitrated the pocket dimension. The mind-flayer's leader, who found his vendetta against this enclave particularly fun, had a taste for psionicly charged minds, but was particularly bold in this raid. The mind-flayers were fought back, but not before Acrain and a few other low-level Elans were abducted. Plane-shifting back to their original world, the mind-flayers dominated the captured Elan and forced them into servitude, allowing the captives brains to "age" properly. One by one, the Elan were killed by the mind-flayers as they savored their brains. As their numbers dwindled, Acrain knew in the small portion of his mind that was still his that his time was nearing. Fortune fell on him when a group of native adventurers inflitraded the mind-flayer's lair and killed a good portion of the group. Apparently, the mind-flayer's lair was under a city and merely a scouting group for illithid domination of the area. Several commoners from the city were abducted for food, but Arcain was a rarity among them and of particular interest to the group's wizard. Sensing the unusal power inherent in Acrain, curiousity turned into friendship as they exchanged information about their prospective worlds and existance. Coming from a world completely devoid of magic, the wizard's ways facinated Acrain. While exploring his own psionic nature, noting that he now aged much slower, was more resiliant, etc., he turned his keen mind towards wizardry. After years of study, Acrain's wizard friend, being human, passed away. After seeing his friend buried, thanking the rest of the group that had saved him (who had also become close friends) from the illithids, and seeing the wizard's property dealt with, Acrain shouldered his pack and spellbook, setting off to explore this new world he calls home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've talked to the DM and he has agreed to allow this character. He will allow psionic feats as long as they do not rely on manifester levels and has agreed to allow me to have a psicrystal without taking the feat, but it will have all the drawbacks and cost of having a familiar. He will not allow psionic items or creation feats, but that's fine with me. I can survive on arcane equipment and crafted items. I plan on taking a mixture of general, metamagic, item creation, and certain psionic feats (Psionic Talent to add to my power point pool and add to Psionic Body) to utalize an Elan's racial abilities. So, what do you think? |
