Hey i'm new to the board, but i wanted to have your opinion on the background i made for my elven ranger.
(it's my first character, and i played it before thinking of a story)
My apologies if there are many spelling errors, i am not english.
Also it may be a tad bit long.

Illias, back ground

Illias was born in a small border town called “Farwood”, where his father and his mother worked as doctors.
His parents were Ran and Alissana Arinias Ordii’l (Ran being the father, Alissana the mother)
When Illias turned 60, the village had been attacked numerous times by human and drow slave convoys, seeing as there was an entrance to the Underdark nearby.
As of such Illias had grown up with no real friends, due to the chance of losing them being very high.
A lot of the town’s folk went to cities to ask for help and protection, but alas the city politics were more important then saving such a small village.
His parents didn’t want to leave because it was their home town, and they were the only doctors in the village.
Then 6 days after Illias turned 60, a band of drow slave gatherers attacked the village, beated back the guards and infiltrated the village.
Illias was sleeping at the time but he woke up from the screams on the street, as he looked up he saw a shadowy figure standing over him with a long dark blade at his throat.
Three words were spoken “come with me” as Illias froze in fear.
Illias was taken as a slave to the city of …. as were his parents and many other town’s folk.
Once there his parents were separated from the rest and taken deeper into the city, whilst Illias got locked into a cage alone.
Days went by as Illias sat in his cage, the only contact he had was the dark elf that brought him his food (or tossed it in his face, depending on the dark elf’s mood)
But after 9 days, two figures entered the cell.
One dark elf woman, who called herself Azala, the other a somewhat grotesque human who introduced himself as Ferningham.
They talked with Illias for hours about his life, and even seemed worried about his condition.
After hours had passed and Illias became tired, they left him in the cage to sleep. (trance whatever)
During that night a sound woke him up and as he opened his eyes, he saw Azala standing next to his bed.
She spoke: “You said you were scared, I will scare you even more. You said you were hurt, I will hurt you even more. You said you were cold, I will let that chill go to your bones, where it will never leave you alone” and then she cut a series of symbols into his chest.
Seemingly under some sort of magical effect, Illias was unable to speak let alone move, all he could do was watch in horror.
As the cruel drow finished the symbols she cut her own finger then let her blood drop on the symbols, causing ripples of immense pain to surge through his body.
The drow spoke again: “Your dreams will be nightmares, your wishes will turn to sorrow, your hopes will wither and die, and your life, is now my life as well”
With that Illias begged her to end the pain, but all she said was “Repeat these words Siniar blood and this pain will end “I give myself up to you Lolth, my soul is Lolth’s alone, my life is Lolth’s to take, and my heart is Lolth’s to devour”, Illias muttered the words in pain not realising what he was saying, after he finished Azala smiled and left the room.
Illias passed out due to the pain shortly after, his last thought was “am I lost”.

When he woke up, he noticed he was in a different room.
The floor was red with blood and as Illias looked up he saw his parents hang on the ceiling, dead due to extreme torture.
Illias screamed in fear and clawed at the door trying to get out, he became terrified of what was left of his parents and tried to get the blood off him frantically.
The door opened after some time when Illias sat in a corner, crying and shivering.
Azala got in the room, and stared at Illias for some time, then spoke: “They died so they wouldn’t stop us, you have a great heritage. The blood that your parents lacked flows strongly in you. The blood of Siniar!” after that Azala grabbed Illias arm and dragged him out of the room, her touch causing immense pain to Illias.
She took Illias to the city’s arena, where slaves were pitted against each other to fight for the amusement of the drow.
There he saw people from his village being driven into the arena, children women and men alike. All were unarmed and looked around in fear.
Then a great roar echoed through the arena as one of the great gates was lifted revealing a darkness through which no eyes could see.
An enormous, misshapen spider stalked out of the darkness. Its forelegs ended in wicked barbs and globs of foul goo dripped from its fanged mouth.
This hideous creature roared at the slaves and as Illias watched in horror it suddenly jumped towards the former smithy of his village and drove his barbed foreleg into the man’s chest.
The drow shouted in excitement whilst the creature flung webs at slaves trapping them.
As the creature began eating another slave, Illias started to feel light headed, his chest burned and a voice he had never heard before said in his head “they are lucky, you are not”.
With that Illias screamed in pain and tried to close his eyes to not witness the horror of the creature tearing people apart, people he had grown up with.
But some force kept his eyes open, and kept him paralyzed, forced to watch the slaughter.
The children were just trampled as the creature chased those that avoided the webs, women bitten in half, torn apart. The men trying to put up a fight, but knowing it was inevitable.
As the last slave tried to fight, the creature drove it’s foreleg into the man’s face, killing him in an instant.
Illias heard mad laughter in his head, and soon he fainted due to the pain on his chest becoming to bad.
Illias woke up getting dragged away by someone with a cloak on, Illias kicked the stranger so that he or she would let go, unfortunately for Illias the stranger knocked him straight back to being unconscious.
When Illias woke up, he was alone in a cave. He seemed to have been left to die in on of the many caves of the Underdark.
After what seemed like an eternity in the dark, hiding from creatures he was glad he couldn’t see, and feeding off fungus and the likes, he finally found a way out of the Underdark.
Finally out of the Underdark, Illias found himself in a forest more dense then he had ever seen.
There he was found by a group of wild elves, a nomadic tribe that regarded the forest as their own.
He was taken to the leader of the band, an old elf who’s name was Rega’t .
Rega let Illias sleep in a tent of a young elf named Ponta’l (Illias always calls him Ponty)
After a night’s sleep filled with dreams of horrors, Illias spoke with Rega’t about everything that happened, only because he needed to tell someone.
Rega’t didn’t speak a word during all the time Illias spoke, but after he asked “Do you know who Siniar is?” Illias didn’t say anything, then Rega’t said “Siniar was a drow priestess, said to have seen the eyes of Lolth (or what was her name). She is a legend well known amongst the older elves, she ruled over the city of (the city Illias was taken to) 400 hundred years ago, it was said her blood held a control over all the children of Lolth, due to the blessing she received when looking in Lolth’s eyes.
Siniar waged wars against many other dark elven cities, and she had the brutal name “the unforgivable” as she killed every citizen in every city that opposed her.
The waters were red with blood in the Underdark at that time, but one man changed all that.
His name was Askan Ordii’lla Ratharindor, he was an elf slave in one of the cities that Saniar conquered.
When she looked upon him, she made him her prime “lover” as she saw in a vision that the children she would get, would be a great sacrifice for Lolth”
So in time Siniar became pregnant of Askan, retreating in her chambers to prepare the sacrificial ritual.
When the baby was born, Ashkan heard of the sacrificial plan and took the baby away then escaped the great city via a scroll of teleport he stole of Siniar.
When at the sacrifice the baby wasn’t there, Lolth according to legends, killed Siniar and ate her heart.
Askan changed his name and lived always on the run, raising his baby to always look back.
Legends state that this offspring of Saniar, supposedly lived on and made a lineage that still exists to this day.
The lineage was never rediscovered however, but still there are many who say that the blood of Siniar still runs through the veins of those of these lineage, but only a few have it as pure as the first baby.
They say that the sacrificing of these would complete the ritual, although nobody knows what exactly the ritual was for.
The symbols on your chest say “my death is for Lolth” and they bind you with the head priestess of the Siniar cult, those who believe the ritual will give them power.
What it means to be bonded to her is that, she is in your dreams and so can turn them into nightmares, she knows where you are. She feels when your hurt or dead. And she knows you more then anyone else. “
Illias from that day on stayed with the wild elves and tried to fit in, rejecting everything that had happened.
He grew up to learn more and more about the forest and always travelled together with Ponty. But never did he speak of what had happened again,
After almost 60 years, Illias had a nightmare again, in it was Az touching the markings and causing the pain to almost overwhelm him, she said “do not forget, you are going to die in the name of Lolth, your blood will feed her hunger. “
With that Illias woke up, shocked and terrified and immediately went to Rega’t.
Who told him that Illias should find a way to break the bond, or else he would be found and killed when the drow felt it needed.
With that Illias said farewell to everyone in the tribe, and went to the great cities, to find a way to be free.
He has since, met a human wizard “ Dersio” who was able to alter the symbols only a little. It hurt Illias immensely and it took 24 days to finish. Any more would have killed him.
But the result was according to Dean, that they would no longer be able to find his position by using the bond.
When Illias turned 193, a daughter of Azala called Adrala tracked Illias down and captured him by rendering him immobile with vials of her mother’s blood (it appears because of that bond, any direct contact with the blood of Azala results in extreme pain and a high chance of being knocked out)
She brought Illias to a “haunted” farm east of Waterdeep, where she put him in a large pit, deep under the farm itself.
There she told Illias, that she was the one who had left him to die in the Underdark, for she could not kill him without invoking the wrath of her goddess upon her, Adrala wished power beyond anything and at that time her mother would have maybe gained a great amount of power, which would make it impossible for Adrala to overthrow her mother and become the matriarch.
That’s why she needed Illias, for one she tries to find out what exactly the sacrifice is for.
And now she had a bargaining tool, seeing as she was thrown out of the city , because her mother thought she betrayed her.
A servant handed her a letter, and after reading that Adrala left quickly.
Illias trapped in a pit deep underground, was actually saved by his wolf. Who had led a squad of soldiers on patrol to the farm, by stealing the pouch of gold from the commander.
There they cleared the farm, and found Illias.
Illias was taken back to Waterdeep and questioned, where he told them he was just walking by as they jumped him and made him prisoner.
After that Illias stayed in Waterdeep for it still is the biggest city, and big city means a lot of information.
Now Illias still looks for a way, and for any information about this ritual and his blood line.

I still have to work some things out, like where was his home town, name of the drow city etc
Please feel free to commen, critize. Also please keep in mind that this is my first background story, so i may have made some major mistakes or something.
Thanks for reading it :)

Thank you :) I'm still trying to decide what his character should be like (i'm going to make a new character, building around the story line)
It's still going to be an elven ranger, though maybe multi classing to rogue.
Any suggestions are welcome :)

Good stuff mate^^
I found that the first background story always seems to be the best (well, from my personal experience atleast)
lol, my first character was meant to be an elven ranger too, but i ended up being a druid...
... you're very knowledgable about Forgotten Realms, when i was playing in that campaign setting, i didn't know the town names, not even waterdeep, all i knew was the High forest (which was where my character came from)... might have been because my former DM was tight

anyway, great stuff^^

Your character's backround is actually the perfect build for a corruped avenger. (Heros of horror) if you can use them in forgotten realms, do it. If not, convince your dm to let you. Its a pediclass that is made for ******-off rangers.

Sorry if this may sound corny, but you can definitely add, say, an old love interest. Women seem to like men with tragic histories. She could probably be a wild elf, maybe even a dark elf. She could be the one drow in hundreds, perhaps thousands, who saw his plight and felt sorrow for him. Just my opinion, feel free to use it how you wish.

Oh, wait, I've got it! For his old love interest, a half-celestial drow! As an outcast, she would be much more likely to fall in love with him.
