This is a backstory of my favorite character, Fenix Niato, Elven Wizard (going into Argent Savent). In our group, we go by elves aging slower instead of what Races of the Wild says, so a 50 year old elf is effectvly an 8 year old child, though most likely a startingly bright one. Read the whole thing. I know its long, I think you'll find it worth it. If not, hey, say so.

Fenix had a pretty normal elven childhood. At the age of 50 (affectivly 8 for elves) a band of orcs raided his home village. Everyone was killed, including his family. Fenix was the only survivor. The first one on the scene was a family freind, a young wizard by the name of Sienna. With Fenixs family dead, she decided to take Fenix in. She was around 100 years fenixs senior, but due to her short and intense adventuring career, she was a surprisingly high level. She had a position as a teacher at a wizard college. Fenix, who started living there with Sienna, soon showed himself to be a natural and started taking classes.

While there, he meet a young drow girl by the name of Belladonna, who was around 10 years Fenixs elder. She was the apprentice of a Sorcerer, an old adventuring companion of Sienna. He never said how he discovered her, but she was impressive enough that he decided to take her on as apprentice despite the fact she was a drow. The sorcerer often taught at the acadamy between travels, and Belladonna soon became a student there as well, since it was easier just to leave her there when he was struck with a bout of wonderlust. Fenix at the time had no freinds. He had a cold, arrogant demenor that most other students found irritating, and a strong will and rebelous nature that put him in most of the teachers doghouse. Most figured he was acting out over the death of his parents. Only Siennas affection for him and his natural talent as a wizard kept him enrolled at the school. Belladonna however seemed to not only be able to withstand his attitude problem, but actually seemed to enjoy it. Fenix ignored the fact she was a drow and soon, they were best freinds, though most people who saw them together wouldn't have guessed it, since they bickered constantly.

As Belladonna grew older, her..feelings became a bit more apprent. She remembered what she had learned in the underdark about Woman being superior to Men. She saw the truth in it, as through her magic(enchantment specialist) and her natural attractivness and seductiveness, she could bend most any man to her will. She soon realized that the only man she didn't have power over was the only one she wanted to have power over, Fenix. She soon started to impose her dominance over him. Fenix, being the strong willed, rebelous teenager he was, didn't take to well to the thought of being anyones slave, especially when he did some research on the drow and discovered the rather horriific sadism drow women imposed on their mates. The whole situation grew to a head when she tied him to a rock and played "Sacrifice to Lolth", complete with sacrifical knife. Of course she had no intention of killing him, it was a game, one to show her dominance over fenix. Fenix however, managed to get away and ran to Sienna. Belladonna, angry that she was in Siennas and her mentors doghouse and even more angry that her toy had run away, decided to backstabbed her mentor and returned to the underdark. After 60 years of freindship, Fenix and Belladonna parted ways, no longer freinds, but sworn enemies.

Belladonna still held an obsession with Fenix. Almost everything she did was to either gain power within drow society or some how bring Fenix closer to being hers. With Fenix under the watchful eye of Sienna though, she has little chance of succeding. Fenix for his part is determinded not to become Belladonnas plaything, both to keep his treasured freedom and avoid the horrific torture he would surely suffer for her perverse pleasure. Deep down though, he ruefully realizes that Belladonna is still his best, indeed his ONLY freind.....

Through all of this though, Fenix held a dark secret. One that tore him apart on the inside. He was in love. Deeply, madly in love. With Sienna, the woman who had taken him in when his family died. He knew that Sienna would never love him the way he loved her, that he would never be more then a beloved student and treasured little brother to Sienna. Being so close to her, yet so far was maddening to him. After his fall out with Belladonna. his biggest distraction from his feelings was gone. He decided he had to go. Out into the world, alone. Maybe if he became as strong as she was, she would realize he was man, and he could atleast tell her how he felt. That would atleast ease the maddening chaos within him. So, one night, at the age of 115, 5 years after Belladonna had left, he stole an Anti Scrying amulet and dissapeared into the night. Sienna of course, paniced that her charge, her only family, had dissapeared. She set off after him. Unable to scry his location, she was forced to look for him the hard way....

Word soon reached Belladonna. Fenix was out from Siennas watchful eye. He was vulnerable. He had played right into her hands.....

So begins the adventures of Fenix Niato, Elven Wizard. Can he manage to allude Sienna, dodge Belladonna, AND gain the power and glory he seeks at the same time? Only time will tell....

So, what do you think? One of my personal best character backstorys, and one of the best I know of if I do say so. I'm just here to see what others think of it. Feel free to be as cruel or kind as you wish. I'll love this character to death regardless.

EDIT: The questions I have are
1. Is Belladonna fesible as a drow? I put alot of work into her, my group has the ever present "drow nut" who just happens to be the DM for this incarnation of fenix, and he oked it. Hes unsure on wither to just have her be crazy or actually in love with Fenix.
2. I seem to be getting alot of jokes from my play group about Sienna. Seems that most think he has sometype of Oedipus complex. Considering his age when she took him in and that he already had a crush on her(she was a freind of the family) i don't really see it. Should I just put up with it as basic character jokes? I worry people are misinturpting the character.
3. This is the only character I've ever played with preset prejudices. He hates orcs, dislikes sorcerers, REALLY dislikes drow, and has no tolerance for stupid people. He frank and blunt, rude and not to sensitive. But deep, deep down hes a good person and can't leave a precived innocent to die. In the party is a sorceress who has made some rather bad calls, leading fenix to go rescue her, often times dropping below 0 as a result. She refuses to see shes done anything unwise and now dislikes fenix grealty because he chewed her out after nearly getting killed saving her the second and third time. Shes even been violent, punching him. I do not wish to tear the party appart, but if she hit him again I feel fenix would have to retaliate, but how?

So, not exactly a hot topic. To long, did i tell it badly or does it just suck?

*watches the tumbleweed go past*

where is everyone?

still... it seems your character information is firmly set. the common jokes are going to be there. it seems the racial vampire ones never get old in my group. prejuices are a nice addition, but just to make sure your character isn't over the top. as for reacting... warn, and warn again, and if that doesn't work... ask other members to help. hello fighter X, she keeps hitting me, can you stop her?

Try using some restraining or non lethal spells on the sorceress if she begins to act in a hostile manner again. Kind of just showing his arrogant, brash side by proving that he can control or dominate her when and if he wishes to do so. It might even be a possibe side effect of his relationship with Belladonna that he now feels the need to prove that he can dominate females as she tries to dominate males. You're a wizard so you might even antagonize her by showing off a wide variety of spells that she does not have the ability to cast.
