My epic level character (17monk/4red avenger/8fighter) needs work. She started as a human monk, but through the course of many adventures has been bitten by two vampires. She failed her saving throws at the begining ( first vampire)so aquired some vampiric traits. Since then she has been controlling it with her will and ki. barely. She did kill that first vampire. Then she was bitten by a second vampire. which enhanced her vampiric quallities. with the first vampire she lost her lawful good alignment and became chaotic good. Now, she is more nuetral good. the lost of the alignment required her to level as a fighter. My question is, how would you play such a character. Her personality has changed over the course of time and I need help. my dm suggested I come here for help. He also said if I don't find a consistant way to play her I will suffer xp loss. :weep: so, please help.

What was the starting personality? As a basis for the 'new' personality? And what else has happened that might have effected the character?

Starting personality was very lawful, obeyed rules, protected the innocent and generally sought evil to destroy it to protect more people. she was and is still very loyal. also very accomadatiing to people asking for help. As to what else happen to change her personality, her traveling companion. He is a chaotic good barbarian who is 1/16th dragon, werebear. He likes wine, women and war. Not neccessarily in that order. Lately, her main goal has been to protect those around him from him. He has very little control over himself and she has limited control. His favorite thing is to just charge a group of bad guys and start whacking without regards to the innocent around him. She has also been touched by a chaos god and an evil god. She is currently on a quest for a demi-god.

Well, you could maintain some of the idea that you're trying to keep your companion under control by saying that you're trying to prevent his 'excesses.' You know, the whole idea that neutral doesn't feel that chaos is a good thing, but too much law isn't so good either. I could also easily see your character very disillusioned as she's led her life as close to her ideals as she could (tried to be lawful and help everyone and make the gods happy and what not) and nonetheless all this stuff has happened to her. She could be having a crisis of faith, not necessarily religious faith, but faith nonetheless. So she'd moderated her views somewhat, and while she still feels that the innocent need protection, she's realized that too many laws/restrictions keep people from being creative and free. Or even that she's just worn out from trying to deal with her companion so much that she's hard pressed to care as much about the letter of the law anymore, as long as she does an ok job of protecting the sweet young things of the village.

Just two random thoughts off the top of my head.
