| SpudMaster03-04-08, 11:14 AM | So I am currently playing a Ultimate Magus - I'm lvl 15. 1 sorc / 1 wiz/ 3 human paragon/ 10 UM. This past Saturday playing my character in the way I do. I managed to Scry on the big bad guy of our campaign - (indirectly). This is like the end goal guy. He opted not to kill me but as "punishment" stuck a kind of curse on me. Took the entire session for the group to figure out that my mana pool (term we use for ones own arcane energies) is now infected with this "curse" so now any time I use a spell my character slowly slips into corruption - and slowly starts showing signs of - Darkness like the world has never seen - form the Book of Vile Darkness. I constantly have the effects of the Location and Object surrounding me to a lower effect then what is given - and we have stifeld the Character effects temporarily. But the party fear is it will continue to grow - no remove curses we can touch upon have any effect - and If i dare use a spell I will open up a flood gate and slowly lose my mind! The question towards character development that has wracked my mind since. Is where do I go from here? Does anyone know of a way I can utilize this corruption to my benefit - a side effect of this is if I submit to being corrupted then I will eventually end up CE (not that I'd mind) but in a land of Exalted good people - it could cause some problems. It would also add from what the DM guestimated for me a +5 ecl - but all said and done not bad. Any advice on what I can do to either - take control and master this corruption - or ultimately remove it so I can go back to blasting things again. |

I presume your character is good? I'd seek out a high level cleric for some guidance on how to deal with it. At 15lvl, it's also possible that you're nearing the end of your campaign, and that confronting the BBEG is at hand. Taking him out might be the only way to prevent you from slipping into corruption. |
| Luis_Dragunov03-05-08, 06:35 PM | As a side comment, it seems to me like your DM was a bit of a bastard. If you're playing on the Exalted side of a BoXD campaign, then he just did the equivalent of telling an abstinent character that his water was spiked with booze and so he lost all of his benefits. Your character is a mage, he casts spells. He's basically screwing with your character because you dared to scry on his BBEG. How did the BBEG curse you anyway? Even if he has one of those "I know who you are and where you are!" (can't remember the name) abjuration spells that go off when someone tries to scry you with divination, how did he target you with a Curse? And if he can do stuff like that, how are you and your companions still alive to stop him? Anyway, on to the real thing about what you can do. 1) Just go with it, be CE. Just because you are CE doesn't mean that you have to gorge yourself on Vile Feats and stuff. You disdain rules and you have little qualms about doing horrible things to get what you want. Remember: Chaotic Evil is NOT Chaotic Stupid. You can still have friends and unless your DM pulls some more silly BBEG spells out of his ass, you still have the same goals: stop the BBEG. Your methodology just changed, though. You see the world with new eyes and you come more and more to realize that things would be much simpler if you just didn't care if that captured minion has both his legs or just one, as long as he talks. Of course, the rest of your party might not like it but, what they don't know can't hurt them so try and sneak around to do your dirty work. Go on "surveilance" missions in which your targets accidently wind up dead. Beat up prisioners for info and then heal them up so no one suspects anything. Etc, etc, etc. Don't forget that just because you're CE doesn't mean you're a heartless Blackguard. You don't need to be a sadist, or enjoy eating baby rabbits that have been Awakened. Maybe you reserve your cruelty to those you see to really deserve it. These can be anyone from trully evil bastards to those who seem to be pompous arses. 2) Fight it. Spellcasting makes you evil (btw, does this sound like a Buffy rip-off on the DMs part? Remember that Evil Willow story arch?) for now so you stop making use of it and spend your time researching a way to get rid of the curse. Get your whole party of friends into it and you just got yourself an adventure! If you're a Sorcerer, you can still be the face man, talking your way out of problems and influence others. If you're a wizard, you have an amazing intelect and problem-solving capacity. Look being your spellcasting, use your other skills. Got Craft (Alchemy)? Load up on sticky, harmful stuff. Buy yourself a wand or two but learn to stay out of trouble. |

Remember: Chaotic Evil is NOT Chaotic Stupid. I was certainly looking direction wise- Iv already decided its not worth optimizing Id rather have fun with it. I like the Idea of being evil - but I want to get away with it - I figured I could pull off Law full evil I'm afraid that if I truly play CE the way I've been playing CN (extra heavy on the C) I'd have to start chucking fireballs just to blow stuff up - or am I over analyzing Chaotic - Our last session this past Saturday - the group targeted a method for to dampen the effects - as long as I don't cast - I am ok - Every time I use a spell the DM is awarding me corruption points. The more points I have the farther I slip. I did throughly enjoy corrupting myself to the point where I had a few outward signs and things around me started turning nasty - I'd walk by a house and milk would curdle - wine turned poisonous. All around a high point for the character on my end - Unfortunetly the "fix" is a psychic ability (dern psionisist) and She can only use it 1x weekly. and we have no Clerics to mimic the effect - So if I push it to far I risk going over - I'm looking to come up with a reason for wanted to go corrupted. My current excuse when the party gives me the WTF look is I am researching a method of fixing it - when Character wise I just want to research a way to utilize it and not go crazy in the process. |
| Gimmak_Sawtooth03-29-08, 05:48 PM | Well, it seems like your in a bit of trouble. If i can recomend some posible RPing solutions. first off if the corruption taints your soul, talk to your DM and see if you can "magic" your soul into a container while keeping your mind in your body. Might even be fun to be souless as it could change the way you act towards others (no longer care about good or evil or your fate. Just about yourself, power or nothing at all) second you could run with the taint, you could play it all kinds of ways. search for a way to use its power. Like that class, i think it's shadow weaver (that uses the shadow weave), except that uses taint instead of arcane energy. thirdly and I'm guessing here, you might now be the focus of the storyline. invest in some scorlls and wands to prevent gaining more taint and expect it to be resolved within a few games. anyway you look at it play it as a chalange to your RPing skills have fun |
