I currently have a lvl 6 halfling ranger, going to Halfling Outrider and then Hafling Paragon. But I want to add the Saint template later on from the "Books of Exalted Deeds". It requires that the character make a great sacrifice (not needing to be his life).
Thing is, I can't think of something that would count as a great sacrifice. My char will have kids later on in the campaign but I don't really want to sacrifice my offspring.
Anyone got an idea of something?
Anything is good.

Perhaps the character has to sacrifice all his possessions? (It's pretty trite, but it might work)

Random Sacrifice Generator Table
00-20 - Some Possession of Great Value to Him
21-30 - All his possessions
31-45 - Save a villain and attempt to redeem him, but receive grievous wounds in the process.
46-55 - Some body part in the pursuit of goodness (loses a hand as he sticks it in Fenris the Wolf's mouth to slay the beast)
56-70 - Sacrifice Glory... He never publicises anything- wants to be unknown (though how this would work with a saint is a bit questionable... he could merely be an obscure saint ;))
71-99 - His Life... or perhaps merely offering up all his skills and feats to the Gods... therefore he only starts with the saints feats or saints skills, depending on what he offered- perhaps in healing someone or saving someone, they were drained to death and he put his health into them- sacrificing hitpoints forever... something like that.

I thought it would be fun to lose a limb, say an arm, and use the half-golem template in MM2 to restore it. As long as you make the check to maintain your alignment, you'll be ok. This also applied to an Dwarf Fighter, so the charisma effects of an iron limb weren't of much concern.

I had actualy thought of losing a limb but couldn't figure out how to make it an act of sacrifice and not just a casualty resulting of normal battle. It seemed to me to be great idea and have some reduced score, say str or something because of the replacement limb. It would deffinetly be interesting if my char lost the save agains't the limb. hehe. Thanks for the ideas though. I'm sure I can work something out now

This might not help you right away, but since you are planning to gain the saint-template on the long run (at least that's what I'm reading in your post), why not 'let it happen' in the game when 'oppurtunities' present themselves.

The way I see a saint, is that he is mostly a normal guy that wants to do good. He doesn't 'plan' to be a saint, but he proves himself to be noble at heart when help/ a sacrifice is needed the most.

This could actually be fun.

Just my thoughts, though.

Yea, it's pretty much how I want to do it let's just hope an opportunity presents itself thanks for all the suggestions though. I'm sure something will come up. In any case I got a lot of time before this happens. I might change my mind. Who knows.
