Hey, I've always wanted to play a PC that is the fantasy equivalent of Spike from Cowboy Bebop. His personality is just so cool. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for roleplaying a character like him?
Also, I'd be interested on input for fantasy versions and roleplaying tips for Han Solo, Jack Sparrow (already fantasy, but I still need RP tips), and Indiana Jones.

Spike I see as a Monk/Rogue/Fighter type. His personality is pretty simple, he's selfish without being malicous or evil, he loves a good challange and is very stubborn and arrogant. Spike does have a soft side, but it rarely surfaces. Both Jack and Han have similar personalities.

Spike: Moderate level monk/low level rogue. High dex, good charisma and wisdom. Average or so everything else.

Faye: Moderate level rogue. Lots of skill points in bluff, VERY high charisma and high dex. Wisdom would likely be her lowest stat.

Jack Sapprow: Moderate level rogue who took some levels of the Dread Piratte PrC. Maybe a few levels of duelist. High intellegence and charaisma.

Han Solo: Moderate level rogue who owns a boat. That`s about it. Use a melee rogue built to account for Han being a guy who`s not afraid to get pyhsical if he has to.:teach:

ummm, feint of the hand it is the mainīs spike skill, that means that or he have the cosmopolitan feat (He is a martian, surelly he is allowed to have it) or it is a rogue or a bard.

The bard it is discarted because I only have saw him whisple and played very bad the armonica in the chapter with the inmortal child.

He was a yakuza, and the yakuza it is the modern equivalent to a thieves guild, so, he is just a pure rogue, he isnt a monk because he tend to be chaotic.

This is where the modern characters don't translate well into a fantasy setting...Spike is definitely chaotic, but has better unarmed skills than a rogue with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat. He is pretty similar to a class one of my players created using bitnine's creation system Roles and Tracks (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116750&perpage=&pagenumber=1) Here's a break down of the Ghost Fist...

Which is why Spike would be a d20 modern character with levels of Fast hero and some martial arts feats.

That would be the easiest way to go, but I'm assuming Gadren wants a D&D version of Spike...or at least that's what I got from his original post.

Actually, his original post and choice of forum would lead me to believe that he wants tips on how to roleplay Spike, especially in a fantasy setting.

Which I gave him in my first post...everything after that was a response to what other people posted. Whether it's in a D&D or Modern setting is a moot point, went of topic with the class stuff.

To clarify, I'm looking to try D&D facsimilies of the formentioned characters.

So he`s a former monk then. All that means in that Spike would be putting his levels into rogue.

I haven`t played enough OA to comment on the yakuza thing.

umm, that it is because he is a high level character, he is also better shooting that your adverage monk with the competence with crossbow.

ummm well duh. Did you miss the entire point that he doesn't translate well into fantasy classes? d20 Modern would be the best way to go, but fantasy wise he has features of the monk and the rogue and some fighter thrown in. While this doesn't jive in a strict D&D rules set it works just fine in a modern or futuristic setting, which Spike just happens to come from. And while Spike was a Red Dragon that doesn't mean he's just a rogue. Vicious was also a Red Dragon and held the same position as Spike but he is not just a rogue.

Thank you very much for your input. But I was actually hoping for input on how to play his personality, as opposed to what class he would be.

Watch the episodes, pretty simple to emulate

Yeah, have Spike act like Spike. Simple as that.

I'd say Spike is almost exclusively fighter with maybe a few levels of Rogue to account for being able to hold his ground surrounded and land knockout punches. Being at the very worst equal to every other character in the series in melee, shootouts, and dogfighting (the only exception off the top of my head being Radical Ed's dad in a fistfight) means in game terms he has a pretty friggin high attack bonus and feats to split between the three. Just replace fighter jets with mounted combat.

As for fighting unarmed, he certainly has combat expertise and Improved feint (episode 1), greater weapon specialization (unarmed), and whirlwind attack(the swarm of thugs on Eroupa).

He definitely does not have a rogue's style. he dosen't do acrobatics off his jet through Vicious' window, he dosen't disguise himself and walk past his guards, or take out the power supply and sneak in unnoticed, or take him out with a sniper rifle. He walks into the lobby gun in hand. Rogues don't work alone often, when they do, they don't do full frontal assaults. They last awhile, no flanking and all, but eventually get taken out.

Jet's most likely an expert with combat feats. Lots of diverse skills like gather information, knowlege, craft, appraise, sense motive, heal and the like. Some skill in fighting but dosen't have spike's finesse in a shootout. so he hangs back and lets spikey do all the bleeding.

Actually Spike does use a disguise in the CB movie.

He walks into the lobby gun in hand. Rogues don't work alone often, when they do, they don't do full frontal assaults. They last awhile, no flanking and all, but eventually get taken out.

That was a suicide run and Spike knew it.

Honestly, this all sounds like more evidence for my idea that Spike`s a monk/rogue. While being sneaky may be the way more rogues work, there`s no rule that says they have to be that way. A rogue with decent stats and the right feats can do pretty well in melee.

Of course, you`re also applying the logic of a world with guns to this. We`re trying to create a version of Spike that could exists in a D&D world where guns aren`t common. So sniper rifles really aren`t an option.
