I'll be playing in a new campaign soon, starting at level 12, and I have the following character concept:

Human male
This man comes from a well educated family. He grew restless in his youth and decided to try his hand at adventuring. He spent nearly 20 years exploring caves and recovering treasure, surviving mostly through his wit. Eventually he settled down and became a professor of history and lore.

His 50th birthday is approaching and he spends most of his time in the attic dusting off memories. He is apt to get sidetracked and start telling an epic tale during class, rather than teach his normal curriculum. Crazy as it is, he's growing restless again.

That's the very brief overview. From a mechanics point of view I'm looking at a rogue6/bard6, the first 6 levels representing his adventuring days, the last 6 representing his teaching days.

I'm looking for anything that will fit into the character profile and make sense from a roleplay point of view. Mostly I'm having trouble finding good feats. So far the feat "obscure lore" makes lots of sense to me from a character point of view. I'm also considering "smatterings" and "skill focus(knowledge history)."

Anything else anyone can think of? Thanks in advance for the help. The setting is greyhawk so lots of region specific stuff doesn't make too much sense

Why am I suddenly thinking of Indiana Jones?

Anyway, I would try to focus all of the feats towards being a professor. Since he was once an adventurer and going to return to that lifestyle, you'll want feats that'll be an asset in a campaign. One flavor feat is fine, which I would pick and 'Obscure Lore'.

Things to help give the character some dimension is to try to think about the relics he collected during his adventuring days and come up with a good (but brief) story for them. This might help when you pick your magic items; instead of having a +2 keen rapier you have acquired Swift Wind from the Tombs of the Darkfire Warlock which saved your life when you the pack of fiendish giant vipers (that also explains why you hate snakes!).

Maybe for smattering you could use "Jack of All Trades" allowing him to know a little "1/2 rank" in everything. Maybe taking "Able Learner" so you can take ranks in anything you want (1:1) still having the cross-class cap as normal. "Tactile Trapsmith" would allow him the I just have a feel for things idea to it. Maybe even a little more as to what he did as an adventurer and I could come up with a few more.

Why not a few levels in Loremaster?
