So I’m asking you all what you think of my character’s history. Warning it is still rather rough)) Bromhelm son of Borhelm, started at the age of 40 as a Guard of the Golden Citadel, the last line of defense for his people against the warlike Gray Dwarves of the northern clans. At 85 years old almost to the hour a large army of Gray Dwarves laid siege to the Citadel, and only after a month of fighting broke through. Bromhelm fought bravely in the battles to come both in Citadel and then in the Golden City of the Heolmead clan. He killed many a Gray Dwarf, and took many trophies. It should have been a glorious war, one of oaths and blood, but in the final hours as the Gray Dwarves lay on one side of the narrow pass that led to the Great Halls of the Golden City, Bromhelm let his pride get to him. Believing that there was no honor (and thus no songs) in just hacking down the enemies as they came over the narrow pass in columns of two, he convinced the Clan Lord to allow the Gray Dwarves to come over the pass unhindered. Two bloodily days of fighting came from that rash choice, and worse more in the first hours of the final battle, as the Gray Dwarves flooded over the narrow pass unhindered, the Clan Lord of the Heolmead fell to the axes and short spears of the enemy Gray Dwarves, and his body was stripped and dishonored by them. In the end, as the fogs of war cleared, the Clan of Heolmead lay the victor, but over half the clan lay dead, many the young men who were to carry on the traditions of the clan. When the survivors learned of Bromhelm’s role in the final battle, how he had convinced the Clan Lord to allow the enemy over the narrow pass, he was stripped of all rank, his possessions were taken from him, and his face was tattooed so that all would know that he was an exile. Now ten years after Bromhelm’s exile he walks the surface with man and elf alike, trying to bring glory to his clan in hopes that he will one day be accepted back by them. ((So, that’s my character’s back story. Is it good, or could it use some work. I tried to take an old Norse/Anglo-Saxon route with Bromhelm’s history, in case anyone was wondering)) later shadow |
| MasterOfPsychic03-10-06, 07:15 AM | In the very beginning of this story, I thought that it was just gonna be a story about a wartime hero, but then complications came... I loved the way you added them... The story is great, and there is one thing I want you to think about: How does he think about honor now these days? Is he trying to keep the honor he lost it for? If he knows that honor only leads to loss of it, why does he want it back? Thnigs like that... How about his family and freinds? If you think about those things as well, this story goods from good to grreat ;) |

If he knows that honor only leads to loss of it, why does he want it back? He still believes in honor, and songs, although no he isn't as rash. I play him as a rather thoughtful Dwarf. He still boosts for sure, and still makes oaths and such, but he no longer will allow the enemy to have the advantage if he can help it. Thnigs like that... How about his family and freinds? During the battle against the Gray Dwarves, Bromhelm lost his father, and his sister's son. Bromhelm is the last male of his family, but has no wife or child of his own, although he was engaged before the battle, Wulfhilma (the woman he was engaged to) turned her back on him once she found out about his role in the Clan Lord's death. As for friends, they all died in the battle, his closest friend Boromthom died beside him in the final charge. I am thinking, and I'm going to talk to the DM, about trying to actually have another clan (no name yet, it's still in the thinking stages) accept him as one of theirs later on, so that I can PrC into a Dwarven Defender. later shadow |

However, it seems like your character concept would fit the Dwarven Defender quite well. I like the background, though it seems like it may be a bit too scoped-out. I would provide a little bit more detail. /Woot |
