| Aeg09-07-04, 10:14 PM | I need ideas. Any ideas, concerning a rogue/solo Fey'ri that has no part in the activities of the House Dlardrageth. Since the char is built to a high level, I need some sort of a background. The character is a fighter-caster type jack of all traits. I know this is a bit vague, but i could use almost any kind of ideas to spice up the characters story, no matter how precise those are. If anyone has something like this made, please feel free to contribute. |
| Rudysseus09-08-04, 07:28 PM | Im familiar with Fey'ri but for some reason am missing information on what House Dlargdregath actually is, aside from a vague idea that is it ruled by an evil female Fey'ri. (Am I off on this?) That said, if you dont want anything to do with them, so much the better :) You could begin by saying that your heritage has caused you great turmoil wherever you go, making it impossible for you to live any semblance of a normal life. So no permanent residence, no wife, no kids. Maybe even no friends. I'm sure there are other Fey'ri out there unaffiliated with Dlargdregath, and you could easily be a part of that. (Not all drow come from Menzoberranzen after all.) Whether they were a secret society or what, I leave that to you, so you can decide if there are more of your "family" out there to interact or create problems with in the future, maybe you don't even know they exist anymore, or you were never aware that you were not a totally unique specimen. Your magic could easily be innate, if you're a sorcerer, so that doesn't need a huge explanation. If you're a wizard, that could take a bit more planning, cuz if you have giant bat-wings, you may not be the most sought-after pupil for even a good wizard. On the other hand, you could have been tutored by an evil wizard, who wanted to use you as a possible link to a powerful being in the Lower Planes, who may be connected with you. Fighting skills you can theoretically pick up anywhere. Not all fighters are soldiers, nor all their skills learned in academies. You could have been trained by any number of people in rudimentary combat skills. A back-alley brawler, a kindly paladin that tried to redeem you, a mercenary between jobs, someone you worked with during your travels, a ranger who you hung out with for a few months during your time. The possibilities are endless. I dont know what your alignment is, but I'll give you a few examples: Lawful Good: you reject your heritage and the evil inherent within it. You believe that life is more nurture than nature and that if you continue to do good things with your life, you can overcome the darkness in your blood. Perhaps you have even joined a church like Tyr or Lathander, who look to someone with demonic blood as the ultimate example that good will always triumph over evil. And if it IS demon blood, your devotion to Law instead of the Chaos inherent in demonhood is further rejection. Neutral Good: You do good without any real leaning towards law or chaos. Again you reject your nature, and go out of your way to beat it down. You could be a protector of nature, sort of like a druid but without their restrictions or codes of conduct. You could take a very militant approach to protecting your turf, if woodcutters come into your area, you scare them off with your terrible appearance and magic. Chaotic Good: You are act as a revolutionary perhaps. Perhaps you adventure into areas where the Zhentarim control everything, or any of the other evil organizations. Naturally this would make you upset since you value freedom over all else, yours and everyone else's. You could convince your party that this cannot stand and begin to work against the evil people, perhaps using hit and run tactics, to blow up an armory, or a granary used by the evil soldiers. You gotta be careful about out and out assassinations because it could lead to worse problems. Lawful Neutral: you could be something of a bounty hunter, or the Complete Warrior class, a Justicar. you dont have to take the class to call yourself that. You always honor contracts you have taken, and adhere to the law always, even if it means allowing your target to evade you for a short time. You should offer a chance for peaceful surrender when necessary, but not at the point of opening yourself up for easy traps and things like that. True Neutral: You could have a weird code of conduct that compels you to keep balance in the world. You make sure that neither good nor evil get too influential, nor that there is too much law or chaos either. This can kind of lead to you to odd deeds that maybe your party wont understand, but you need to explain about the balance you adhere to. Chaotic Neutral: Your bloodline has driven you mad. You can't wrap your mind around the idea that demonic blood is in your veins. You aren't a raving lunatic, just mumbling in the streets but you have periods (particularly in battle) that you just have to let loose your demon rage. You have mood swings, and the only really reliable thing about you is that you cannot be relied upon at all. You are powerful in a fight but you are so distrusting and confused about who your friends are that you throw fireballs dangerously close to them, and they aren't really sure if they trust YOU in return, but they would much rather have you on their side than be against you. Lawful Evil: you're a slick, shrew noble-type of character. You act superior to anyone and everyone you meet, especially to those obviously below you in standing, such as slaves, peasants, common guards. You are also intelligent enough to know whose butt to kiss and stay on their good side. You try to get other people to do your bad things for you, hiring assassins or thieves to do the things you don't want to be caught doing. Neutral Evil: you could be an assassin. The combination of sword and magic is very lethal and even more versatile. You can pretty much adapt to any situation, using your sword and other weapons for more stealthy kills, and your magic to get out of a tight spot or just to make an example of some poor target by not only killing him but taking out a large chunk of property along with him. Chaotic Evil: you are powerful and mean, and you make sure that everyone knows it. You are quick to anger and take offense from just about anything, and when you do, you are likely to just turn the offender into a pile of ash with your magic. CE is hard to play and not draw a lot of attention to yourself or your party from paladins and goodly clerics. I can throw a little more background at you if you tell me your alignment at least and what type of character youd envision yourself. A fighter-caster can be any of the above, and so much more. |
