| Puskara10-14-05, 04:16 AM | I am making a Fire Gnome (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/planar_gallery/82545.jpg) Artifacer/Rogue or Artifacer/Bard. I could use some ideas and help pulling the character together. Here is what I have so far: Gender = Male Native Plane = Bytopia/Elemental Fire Intersection 1. Gregarious - Loves being in the mix of things and loves people. he woudl love the feel of opening night at a big summer blockbuster film. 2. Free-Thinking - Takes each situation on its own merits and does not like to pre-judge 3. Chaotic - He is a free-spirit that hates restrictions and finds many laws to be purely optional or situational. He does accept that some conformity is necessary to make life better, he just does not believe in conformity. 4. Good - He believes in good as based on the concept of harm caused. If something/idea is used to harm then it becomes evil, if it is used to help then it is good, otherwise neutral. he feels that black/white good/evil standard is a invention by the orthodoxy to subdue the masses. 5. Inquisitive/Enterprising - He loves to tinker and to play with gagetry. He will probably set up a fine restarant as the front to his workshop (something spanish and arid with water-gardens and enclosed courtyards, very unpretentious and earthy) with a side business as an appraiser of family heirlooms and disabler of dangerous magical contraptions. Not above stealing something he cannot get/study otherwise. 6. Polytheistic - He will observe various gods like the romans or greeks did. Gods are partners in life and situational. =P I am thinking maybe a crush on an evil goddess as a dirty little secret. 6. Generous - He will create numerous charities once he gains enough wealth. Some will be dedicated to god(s) he appreciates. These are a genuine attempt to help people. So ideas for names, gods to favor, personality traits, equipment, basically anything are appreciated. Being driven purely by curiosity seems a bit stereotypical. Fire gnome also seems ripe for good names and personality, I just cannot think of any for the life of me! Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Puskara |

As the chef/owner of 1+ restuarant/inns - different resturants have varying styles of food/cost but always high quality for the money the customer spends. Excess food that is unuseable by the resturant is donated to local food bank style charities. THe kitchen should have at least one section that can be watched over by the patrons - it allows your character to engage the customers (Gregarious) while cooking (Fire) and would be unsual for the times ( Free-Thinking) and if he was good at cooking then it would be a popular resturant ( Enterprising) - he could also give out cooking hints and some recipes while he was making a meal (Generous) and hiting the richer customers to make a donation to a charity or participate in a charity event. When you need to leave the city for anventuring I have a few low level items that I designed for another character - partly magic partly engineering - could fit in with the character if you do decide to make cooking a role-playing focus for your character - it came originally as a portable kitchen, but it could be broken down into smaller pieces. If you want it I could post the portable kitchen later. Just though of something - so I've edited my response. If you became known as a great chef - both fantastic food and a charming quirky personality - you could be invited into many different situations and you would also be forgiven for a number of "artictic" traits - such as always needing at least some ( if not all ) of your own equipment when you cook outside of your resturants. Since you are a artificer you could easily make items that would do doube duty as both kitchen utensils/gadgets and thieves tools/gadgets :) It would also help if you regularly invented new dishes so that you could complain about other people trying to steal your recipes/methods rather than just coming to learn from you. ( though that should also require that you take at least one rank in the profession skill Instructor ) Of course as a highly artistic type you can be expexted to know how to Gather Information - because that is how you will discover what your customer want to eat, have enough information to charm your customers, and figure out what new recipes/ingrediants you might try next. |
| Puskara10-15-05, 10:04 AM | Nice angle! I like it. The idea of being invited about in order to cook is too good to pass up! My wait staff will be effigies (constructs) so i coudl program to act in some novel manner each night. (Ex. TOnight you will skip everywhere!) I am in your debt, I will make you a saint of one of my gods! Funky name for a saint but there you have it! |
| erbmjw10-15-05, 10:16 PM | I have a different idea - make a Saint Stitch; a neutral good female halfing saint of intelligent magic using, gadget making, thieves - not a smash and grab thug of a saint more a cat burglar, con artist kind of saint. Most people/worshippers don't get to know her real name or much about her real background. You can have that be one of your character's thieving quests - after all Stitch would not allow just anyone to easily find out her real name and/or background ;) Even better have her be a neutral good Saint of an neutral Evil deity of thieves - it would suit her and the deity of thieves well. Then the Evil goddess of thieves ( whom you have a crush on ) could set you on a quest to discover Saint Stich's real name and/or some particular background information. After all it makes better sense for a female neutral evil deity of thieves to have a female neutral good Saint, than any other deity? I can even give you a revised character background based on Stitch so that she would fit into your game world. But I would need some background on the world and the gods you want to have in your pantheon. In case you are wondering Stitch got her nickname because she was fantastic with a needle - she made make clothes, boots, anything made out of fabric/soft hide. Stitch also made/designed/enhanced a few other items for character role-playing and/or game use - like a light weight portable magic enhanced kitchen, and a set of thieving tools that were snapped together out of parts of her cooking utensils ;) |
