Hi all

I am looking for a cool ability or character aspect (for role-play only) that I can give to a fire based sorcerer I have in one of my games in an effort to help distinguish him as being "very in tune with fire" and get him a little more into his character.

I thought maybe something along the lines of his hands bursting into flame when he cast spells or maybe the ability to create fire at will (not for damage purposes). Something just kind of unique or interesting that will help build the character a little more nothing that actually increases the characters abilities or overall strength. This is for role-play purposes only.

I figured maybe some of you might have an idea you could offer or have known someone who did something similar with a character. I know fire based sorcerers are not exactly a rarity.

Thanks a bunch,

One of the possible uses of the Prestidigitation cantrip is to create a two-inch jet of flame (which is incapable of dealing HP damage, but coule probably be used to light a pipe or ignite kindling). It's not exactly "at will", but it's something you could do for flavor that's firmly within the rules.

The Fiery Burst reserve feat (Complete Mage) grants a supernatural ability to create small bursts of fire as long as you have high-level fire spells available to cast... but Reserve feats are generally better for wizards; Sorcerors are generally better off using spell slots, and putting feats to other uses.

While I know this isn't the CharOp board, I feel like I should recommend that you have something you can do to fire-resistant or fire-immune opponents, whether that would be casting spells that do nonfire damage, making some portion of the fire damage from your spells unresistable, or simply knowing a few save-or-die type spells. (This advice comes from watching my own group's fire mage trying to fight a Devil, and then some trolls with amulets of fire resistance.)

Hmm...maybe you could have him smoke or steam a little every time he casts a spell. His hands should be stained black from soot and ash. It's subtle, but I always thought flaming eyes and hair and hands and whatnot was a little corny and over the top. Anyway going a little farther, the sleeves of his shirt could be tattered and burned from having cast so many fire-based spells. He should smell like smoke at all times. His skin should always be warm to the touch as if he had a blazing fever. I know you were looking for something more flamboyant while he cast spells, but this is what popped into my head.

Singed robes, from the excessive use of fireballs.

Make sure that all your equipment is burnt. And at one point in the game you must fireball yourself... well not really, but it's rather humerous if you do.

Spell thematics from the FRCS. Is a feat that allows you to make your spells look anyway you choose. (Fire, skulls, something). Bloodline of Fire (FRCS)+2 caster level with fire spells, Elemental casting (planar handbook) +1 caster level with element chosen.

All of the nerves in his hands (from casting so many fire spells) are completely dead, so he cannot feel any pain in either hand, but nor can he really feel anything else. This seems to me that it would be kind of interesting. At night he could amuse the party by simply holding his hand in the fire until it literally begins to roast. But since he's had this condition for so long he still can make use of tactile senses, in other words he's learned to use his hands and sense of touch without actually being able to touch things.
