I can't tell you anything about what classes or whatever to pick up, not knowing the system very well, but there seems to be an important question to ask here; in a universe where even the ascetic warriors have nifty laser swords, why would someone eschew advanced weaponry entirely and concentrate on his bare fists?

There are a number of reasons -- personal desire, a dislike for "killing" weapons, job (e.g. boxers, bouncers, enforcers, etc) etc. While uncommon, it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

If you are wanting to know about feat selection, look into the Martial Arts tree. There are also a number of advanced "style" feats in the Hero's Guide.

As far as classes go, there is a Martial Artist PrC in the Hero's Guide. If your character is Force Sensitive, you can take the Force Warrior PrC (in the Power of the Jedi sourcebook) and apply the bonuses to your unarmed damage instead of a weapon.

I'm not saying it's at odds with the setting or anything, merely that it's unusual enough that there should be an interesting explanation behind it, perhaps one that can help inspire the rest of the character. After all, knowing the right questions to ask can help a lot when developing a character.

i play a sort of character like that.

Soldier 4
DS marauder 4 come back to the light side (lol)
and Force Warrior

emphasis your style with unarmed fighting style, like martials arts, advanced Martials arts...
agile riposte, redirect attack etc...
acces to the power of battle mind, enhanced abilities...

at the end of your progression you will be able to do about 6d6 damage by punch or a kick and a critical hit on a 17 if i remember well.
Don't need monks anymore neither jedi, just call me! lmao

hi,
i will reply with my own experience.

i play a lion like race known as kilrathi. from those who don't know wing commander, it's similar to cathar but bigger.
Prefer hunting with bare claws than with a weapon...

there are no monk class, but monks exist:
or you can become from a primitive race.
you can be pacifist.
or you can just be a character who like punching others.

you are only limited by your own imagination...
