| flamefist drunkenmonk12-01-04, 09:46 PM | what are some flavorful class's to take as a wizard specializing is necromancy. Iv already got shadow adept but i cant think of any others that seem "necromancerish" (i make up words sometimes... :P ) Im a sun elf so Red Wizards are out .. I've got access to a lot of books and possibly internet if my DM agrees to it(unlikely though) thanks in advance :edit: are there any "formulas" or such things that can make spells (or at least for experiments for spells) or is it just something i should talk to my dm about. Seems like there are a lot of necromancer spells that could be used (making heads of people talk for instance ) Or just any suggestions on kinds of spells i could talk to my dm about. |
| Melpomene12-01-04, 10:19 PM | Red Wizard. Stupid Thayan humans think they have the monopoly on specialist progressions. |
| Melpomene12-01-04, 10:21 PM | True necromancer is a lot of work, and it doesn't always work out pretty. Pale Master costs you progression. I recomend as much raw spell progression as you can obtain. Even if this means being just a 'strait' wizard (cleric, whatever) for 20 levels. |
| Mirikon12-01-04, 11:31 PM | True Necromancer and Pale master both have plenty of flavor. Going Wiz 20 always works. As does picking up archmage levels. And then there's always the Lich template. |
| TheMightyMcClaw12-02-04, 08:44 PM | Blood Magus and Acolyte of the Skin make good necromancers, and are a little off from the typical necro flair. |
| flamefist drunkenmonk12-02-04, 09:41 PM | hmm.... iv heard of palemaster (neverwinter knights). True necromancer iv heard a bunch of different places but i have no idea where it is from... In fact, i have no idea where any of the things u have suggested come from haha(except lich template) so could u please post books :D but thank you for the responses  |

Also, the Unearthed Arcana necromancer specialist variants are reasonably sweet; one lets you trade a familiar for a skeletal minion, one trades your wizard feats for becoming undeadish, and the third trades bonus specialist spells to power up all undead you create (which isn't wholly worth it at lower ,spell-short levels). For the talking heads, look into the spell magic mouth, but the closest thing there is to a formula is comparing what you want with what already exists and talking to the DM about it. Libris Mortis is a great necromancer book. For some really sweet undead buddies, look into the Corpsecrafter feat and all of the feats that require it. Necromancerish = necromantic = necrolicious |

Yes. Blood Magus and Acolyte of the Skin are both in Complete Arcane. I would take Blood Magus, it is so cool. |
| Orochi_Furor12-20-04, 01:59 PM | Dragon Magazine #312 Deathwalker: Wizard specialist necromancer that trades in bonus feats for slowly turning undead(not lich though)and gets the ability to "command" undead through a special "Master of the dead" ability, similar to Rebuke undead, but uses a charisma check to controle the zombie or skeleton, max of 5HD of "mindless" undead total, including through Animate Dead. Fleshcrafter: Wizard specilist necromancer that trades bonus feats in for ability to make undead grafts. Very Frankenstienish, create your own flesh golems and such at high levels. Soul Reaper: Wizard specialist necromancer that trades bonus feats in for abilities to controle spirits. Lots of speak with dead and using spirits knowledge for things, get a special familiar and at high levels ability to put peoples souls into undead for inteligent undead. Good stuff if you realy want some extra flavor. |
