Ive got the basics of a character brewing in my head, i havent rolled any dice for him yet so just bare with me :P

The driving force behind this character is renown, he seeks to be known for as many deeds possible by as many people as possible.

Im wanting him to be human (the short life span gives the character an 'agaisnt the clock' sort of aspect) and will most likely begin him in the rogue or fighter class (he wont stick to any one class for very long as he wants a broad coverage of abilities)

As for his alignment, im leaning towards chaotic neutral. He isnt overly concerned with the well-fare of others, though he realises that the masses like those who help people like them. Also, he will take somewhat of a robin hood approach to gaining his fame, robbing from the rich (doesnt matter if theyre good or evil) and give to the poor (after hes taken what he needs of course), though the only reason he seeks gold is for the aid it can give him, not for the wealth itself.

He will constantly push himself to more and more dangerous and daring deeds, constantly working on making his legend grow.

Perhaps he will hire some sort of bard to travel with him and record his deeds, im not sure about this yet though. Also, i think he will have a few heroic lines and speeches pre-prepared, so he can whip them out at the most dramatic moment.

So thats the basic idea behind the character, any thoughts? Keep going with him or dump him and start again?

Chiers

Peace

Edit: Just as a thought for the characters end, im thinking that the thought of fading away into obscurity is more horrible to him than death itself. So when he feels that he is slipping (reaching middle age for example) he will go off on one last, near impossible mission and go out in style (he will announce it publically first though :P)

I like it:D !!
Quick idea stats wise. Give him a high charisma and the force of personality feat. maybe make him a bard who disguises himself as a normal storyteller to tell people of his own deeds.
And now, the final test!!! Why hunger for this fame so?

Why hunger for this fame so?

There are a few possibilities here (this is one of the areas i could use some help with)

-perhaps in his late teens he was going to marry some girl that he loves, when some great hero came into town. Long story short, the girl ended up going with the hero instead of the character, as they left the hero might have said something like "nobody wants a nobody" or "you gotta be a somebody to get the girl"

-perhaps he and his family were dirt poor, and his mother recited all these bed time stories and such to him, so he aspired to become a hero of sorts (this seems sort of too much like the game 'Fable')

-a great wizard (woah... *thats* origional) came to town and said that a legendary hero willl come from this town, and that he will save the world.

I dunno... there are so many possibilities here, so as i said, i could use your help.

And as for his personality, im thinking that he wont be boastfull about himself (the masses dont like a show off), instead he will let his deeds speak for themselves.

Hmmm, Fithero another solid character idea *scribbles it down for later use.*:P I was thinking, a good reason to seek fame and glory is because he was always in the shadow of an older brother, perhaps your character is constantly pushing himself to outdo a sibling, or a father. This idea seems over used to myself, but hey, its a thought.

I like your overall concept, and i think that the character could be useful for a comical effect, if its needed in a game.
Keep up the awesome work man, your a goldmine.

Cheers Fithero,

I thought of another reason why he hungers for fame and glory: he tries to veneer his former shame and ignominy.

Think of him as a redeemed soul, who did something utmost vile in his younger days, for example poisoning a well or lied on court to get away with a theft and blaming his best friend for it. Someone found the truth about his evil deed and now he runs against him and time so he wil be remembered for his glory and not for his shame.

I like the rest of the story very much, keep going on like that.

Maybe he just came from a small town where nothing ever really happened and finally got sick of it all, and wanted to do something great with his life....

He's watched and hated the life his father leads. His father would have done a simple job - farmer, librarian, merchant, whatever - done it well enough in his own quiet way, then quietly died. Forgotten the day he hit the dirt.

That's not for our hero. Nobody will EVER forget his name, and that way he knows he'll never die.
