I'm about to start a new Forgotten Realms campaign with some of my friends and I have about a dozen character ideas for it that I'd like to play (several of which the DM has already shot down), but I'm thinking this one would be interesting, as I've never played anything like it (nor has anyone else in the group)... let me know what you think. (Starting at 3rd Level)

Human Favoured Soul or Ilmater - 3
Feats - Sacred Vow, Vow of Nonvioloence, Vow of Peace
Role - group healer and concience.

Basis of his history - a parent was a devotee of Ilmater, not a cleric or member of the church, but a genuine worshipper who strove to uphold his ideals. Ilmater took notice of this parent and gave blessing to their child (me). Between the parent's teachings and my predisposition conferred before birth by Ilmater, I developed a strong ethical/moral code and reverence for the ideals of Ilmater, seeking to travel Faerun to make his voice/ideals heard and to reduce the suffering in the world as best I could. I took my vows to Ilmater to devote my life to his cause and prove my devotion, etc.
I don't have details worked out yet, exactly; I just thought of the character a couple minutes ago, so haven't had time to really work on it. Any thoughts or suggestions to make him more real, more interesting? So far I'm thinking hobbies in the lines of something like origami (but not that) would be appropriate for him, perhaps even playing flutes/whistles or something.

perhaps vow of poverty instead of the nonviolence path, players generally get ticked off when one of the party doesnt pull his weight in combat, unless your going to focus on healing them or something like that.

I think vow of poverty also because illmater (IIRC) the suffering one, who always puts other infront of himself. Giving his belongings away to others to lessen their suffering.

Also you might consider trying to go for the stigmata feat, it lets you heal others by taking con damage......only the holiest of the holy can do that!

As for a hobbie, it doesnt have to be something wimpy and peacefull (unless your really wanting to go for that). perhaps he is really good with a deck of cards, carving little toy animials out of wood, or hell maybe he just makes wooden holy symbols of illmater and gives them to poor people. That seems fitting.

my question is which region are they from?

I haven't chosen a region yet, that will take some research which I haven't had time to complete or start :P

As for the vows, I really doubt that my DM will go for Vow of Poverty, he's been denying lots of good flavour stuff for other character ideas I've had, so I doubt he'd go for that one. I can role play it without the actual feat, since he'd probably nix the bonuses of the feat.

I am considering taking Stigmata as well later, it seems like an awesome feat for me to take with this character.

Tethyr is to be my starting region. I'm not sure yet where the gmae is to take place... possibly Waterdeep, Cormyr, or something, the DM hasn't made his decision.

Surprisingly he also is allowing VoP.

So we finally played our first game with these characters... I ended up pummeled by orcs and spit on several times. Should be an interesting game.

Ah, I think it went just fine... it's just a good thing I was able to cast Cure light wounds on myself during the combat... unfortunately, since I was the guy trying to talk to them, I was the guy who ended up completely surrounded by orcs and pummelled. I lived though (with some NPC interjection) and was able to proceed in helping the other injured before curing myself.
