Deimos Vex, atheist NE human PsyWar 10, captured as an infant by a cabal of Mind Flayers, only saw the light of day at the age of 17. Misadapted for the outside world ("What's an elf ?"), survival was an everpresent challenge.

On the course of 8 years, he became a reluctant member of an Evil aligned Zent party (the PCs), gave lip service to Bane and was recently struck down by an arrow of Slaying during the Quest for Dragon Mountain.

But he's getting rezzed! Death having enlightened him in the grander sheme of things, he's now obsessed at earning himself a better fate in the afterlife than that of a lemure. i.e. The Atheist now wants to become a "Divine Champion", albeit for selfish reasons. (I'm aware of the PrC)

A fork stands before him, shall he:

A) Clean his act ?
or
B) Fall deeper into the madness?

Which path would YOU make him take, and thus what Deity would you choose for him (we're playing in Vasaa)?

He is very fortunate indeed to be resurrected since atheists in the Forgotten Realms may not be.

Since he "paid lip service" to Bane, perhaps Bane had plans for him and rescued him from the Fugue plane.

I'd go with Bane and seemingly clean up your act, but really begin planning a long-ranging goal to work out some deals with dark powers to gain some political clout when you do die so that you wind up a bit higher on the food chain than a mere lemure.

The main reason why he's getting raised even though he's Atheist is probably because...he just was NOT aware that there did exist such a thing as gods, religions and pantheons! The Flayers were his masters, and that was it. Nothing was higher in power and authority than them... for him.

A) Clean his act: Has anyone played a neutral or good character in an evil organisation before ? I'm wondering what it would be like roleplay wise. Of course, his alignement change would take a lot of time just going from Evil to Neutral, and even longer from Neutral to Good, but I can't help to wonder :).

B) Fall Deeper into the Madness: )I like your idea of making dark deals, but not with Bane, since the Zents forced him to join their organization. But Bane allies, now, that's interesting :), any divine suggestions ? :D

The way I see it is the god whose precepts he did follow gave him another chance at life to live the way he was meant to before death stopped him from realizing his destiny, He doesn't have to know what god saved him... but by traveling and learning more about himself and the gods.

There are many religious accounts in RL holy books of people who had a single enlighening event and changed overnight from evil to good. Based on that, it should be perfectly reasonable for a character to have a simmilar experience. To him, perhaps he spent the equivelant of hundreds of years in torment, giving him a totally new perspective on life. I would say a god of forgiveness or mercy would be best suited to such a character, after all, he would undoubtably believe that he obtained mercy and forgiveness for all of his vileness.
