Former Circus Act. [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-05-07, 02:57 AM Okay, so I've been toying for a long time with this character and I have everything worked out; all I need is what he fights with.

He used to be in a traveling circus group. He wasn't a clown but part of his bit was to act and be funny and comical; when he did this he wore a mask with a huge grin on it.

Well, in one town they travel through there happens to be a group of bandits/pirates/whatever-else in the town. They hear of the 'famous troup' and decide to drop by and visit. They stay for several hours drinking and having a good time. One of them gets friendly with a tight-rope walker (a girl akin to a sister to the character). The character was entertaining a group and ran across to stop them still wearing his mask; but he was cut down. A large gash is in the side of the mask and a huge scar runs down his neck. The group proceeded to get more violent and kills most of the troup there.

The character survives the incident and - having lost everything - leaves. He begins training. The idea is that he goes from town to town acting as he used to; comical, amiable, helpful, until he finds out about the baddies in town, and what they are up to. At night he dawns the mask and heads out to murder them, ruthlessly.

So, what does he fight with? I've been trying to think of something circus like, something that would appear silly, something that he could explain jovially in bars but he uses at night.

I discarded throwing knives because it was too easy. I can't really think of much else. Perhaps an umbrella or a cane?

Any suggestions?

09-05-07, 03:50 AM Maybe clubs? Perhaps he used to juggle them.

09-05-07, 07:26 AM How about a sledgehammer?...lots of them lying around circuses to put the tents up.

Or maybe he uses his steel-reinforced-with-razor-blades-concealed-in-the-heel clown shoes?

09-06-07, 12:16 AM You want a real challenge. Juggle ropes. All sorts of potential neat tricks there. And you can have an ally cast animate rope before you start throwing.

09-06-07, 11:06 AM What about a variant of the light flail. You could wield 2 of them and be a fire twirler, just light the ends on fire until your rich enough to get them enchanted with flaming burst or the like :P
