| MagnaSecuris10-09-06, 11:02 PM | I want to make a CE Warlock who gained his power through contact with a demon, rather than through bloodline. The deal is that the demon grants him the power to take revenge for a terrible sluaghter against his people, in exchange for the souls of whoever he kills. This deal changed his world outlook, as he is now tained with the corruption of power. Any particular feats, invocations, or PrCs that would emphasize this flavor would be appreciated. Race is negotiable, but preferably any advice shouldn't be race-specific. Powerful isn't as important as 'awesome', but is nice to have. Right now, I'm looking at: Point Blank Shot Spell Penetration and lots of Extra Invocations. Baleful Utterance is a must. Thanks. |

| Cherubaddon10-09-06, 11:21 PM | Before we get started: I love the idea. I usually play LE or NE necromancers, so I almost feel a kinship with your warlock. ;-) First, if you want feats, be a human.(And you will want feats, for the ones you chose are excellent choices. Just on thing, though: If you have one feat too few, and you start at level 11, take Vitriolic blast and drop Spell Penetration.) That, plus humans are awesome! Depending on which level you want to be, consider the following invocations: Entropic Warding: Powerful sign of the favour of your demonic patron. See The Unseen: Let no petty magician escape your abyssal wrath! Frightful Blast: Send your foes running in fear. Fell Flight: Grants you mobility. Flee The Scene: Always live to fight another day! Walk Unseen: Go through the city undetected choosing the next victim of your arcane might. Voracious Dispelling: Magic is only for those who are strong enough to wield it! Curse of Despair: If you prefer spreading misery rather than death. The Dead Walk: The ten-minute-army: no town will be safe from you. Vitriolic Blast: A MUST-HAVE, as it negates SR. Chilling Tentacles: Running away from you comes at a cost... Devour Magic: If you are a jealous arcanist. Tenacious Plague: Great not only against enemies, but also against crops. Utterdark Blast: Confront your foes to the inevitability of their doom. Path of Shadow: Spread mayhem wherever you want, and move on before paladins and similar annoying do-gooders can catch you. Retributive Invisibility: Nobody foils your plans unpunished! Word of Changing: The ultimate blessing of chaos. Hope these are helpful. I would also suggest one of the following PrCs: Acolyte of the Skin: Show your devotion to your dark patron. Blood Magus: Learn the darkest magic. Ever. Wild Mage: Show your enemies the powers of Entropy. Tainted Scholar: If you have HoH, take this class. Don't ask why. Just do it. Have fun with your warlock! I would be glad to read on this thread which choices you finally made and how he is! |
| Cherubaddon10-10-06, 12:24 AM | Just thinking about that one: If you have HoH but do not play with taint mechanics, you might ask your DM to stretch the rules a little so you can play a fiend-blooded, to come closer to the demons you revere. |
| MagnaSecuris10-10-06, 11:07 PM | Thanks, I didn't think of Blood Magus, but that would work well. I'm not so sure about Acolyte of the Skin... it could work. I'd need to look into it more. Can you think of any good 'mildly' devilish things to do, since nobody else in the party will be evil. I'm thinking Baleful Utterancing enemy weapons 'just to see the looks on their faces', and frying anybody who 'ceases to be useful'... |
| Branto10-11-06, 01:39 AM | Heh, all I'm going to say is that with damage reduction, energy resistance, and the ability to get elemental versions of your eldritch blast in various types (the cone one is good), Warlocks are great at spreading destruction... And above all, they make the BEST pyromaniacs EVER. No, forget the pyrokinetic guy.. he can run out of energy and have to stop burning. You get Brimstone Blast, the cone shape, and fire resistance and the only limitation to how much you can burn is how much combustible stuff you can find. ;) Or alternatively, go with a cold version, turn everyone into popsicles, and hum the 'freezemeister' song from that one christmas special at any given opportunity. |
| Cherubaddon10-11-06, 01:05 PM | Mildly devilish... nice word^^. Well, the acolyte of the skin does not have to be evil, and the Blood magus can actually be good (although not lawful good). The only problem is the AotS' limited spellcasting advancement. The Blood magus is better at that, but the AotS definitely has some coolness too. But I see your point. You said you wanted to deal with a demon and spread destruction in his name (if I got you right), so I guess you will have to be a little more than simply "mildly devilish". If, on the other hand, you would prefer some subtlety, take the charm and the Beguiling Influence Invocations and become a Mindbender. A Mindbender offers slow spellcasting progression, ok, but still a lot of new powers you otherwise would not get, and he is only as evil as you play him. If you want to slay mages, take the two dispelling invocations as well as see unseen (and maybe devil's sight) and become a Suel Arcanamach. When it's all said and done, though, I think the AotS and the Blood Magus offer the highest coolness factor, and the Blood Magus is definitely powerful. Hope it is helpful. Good luck! |
| Telemon_Ajax10-11-06, 07:12 PM | I think there's a Fiendblooded Prc somewhere, that might be what your looking for |
