FR Cross-Breeding. [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was wondering how exactly FR cross-breeding works. Which source book would one consult to determine what breeds are possible and which aren't?

For example, I have an idea for a new NPC character which I've adapted from the FRCS "Arrk" character (p. 153).

I will be using most of Arrk's stats and backstory, but I wanted to make him a Half-Troll instead of a full Troll. I was thinking that his other Half would be an Orc. The story being that his father was a Troll chieftan and his mother a captured Orc slave, and that he was the result. This would further explain why he is "Smaller but Smarter" than most of his kind, and also why he eventually leaves them.

Is a Half-Troll/Half-Orc mix possible? If not, what cross-breeding IS possible with a Troll?

02-29-04, 01:27 AM Well, there isn't really anything that says you can't cross breed a troll... And I think there was a troll/ettin in the new drizzt books.

Savage Spieces has a section on half breeds, or something really simular, where you can merge two monster races together. I think the example had a hobgoblin and a griffin.

Not much help I know, but it's a place to start.

03-02-04, 09:24 PM No, i know the character you are thinking of from "The Lone Drow" he was not a mix between ettin and troll, he was a mutant, (multi-head template).

I have never seen anything for cross-breading races, but the way trolls are described in the MM, unless they were intelligent for there race, i doubt they wouldn't hesitate in eating the mother character.

You also have to remember that they dont mention how they reproduce, they even give the thought that they dont mate, but instead get together and rip each other to pieces, and new trolls regenerate from the pieces.

Edit: The part Tauric creature was the Template you are thinking about from SS, and that is not Crossbreading, but actaully 2 creatures Merged togethor.

03-03-04, 04:54 PM The Fiend Folio contains the half-troll template. That might be a good place to look. (don't have my copy on me at the moment, so I can't really comment beyond that).

03-04-04, 03:00 PM I don't know if I can mention this book because ti is 3rd party..so may want to read this message before it is gone is so..there are two books that come to mind. Bastards and Bloodlines and The Guide to Half-Breeds. Both are good for helping make new beasties
