| SD02-15-05, 11:27 PM | Define "et cetera". Do you mean "Other than generic wizards, describe a generic wizard", or do you mean "Other than an old man in robes and wearing other things that are not robes, describe a generic wizard"? I imagine that the iconic wizard is a pretty decent generic wizard. You know, that being the point of the iconic characters and all. |
| DemnYosh02-16-05, 12:00 AM | by the etc i meant expanding on the old man wizard thing, with the beard, pointy hat, and other ghetto gandolfish gunk. |
| TheMightyMcClaw02-16-05, 09:22 PM | Cute elf girls who wear skimpy clothes. The iconic wizard, Mialee, almost fits this... except she looks like a horse. |
| Johnny3D3D02-17-05, 06:03 AM | One that comes to mind for me is the generic/classic Final Fantasy Mage: Baggy, flowing robes, and a huge hat that makes the face - other than the eyes - impossible to see. Another generic-cliche wizard would be some bumbling fool sitting in the middle of a room cluttered with books, scrolls, and vials. He can barely keep from tripping over his own two feet, and he has a list of laughable phobias, but is a competant wizard none-the-less. He's the cliche-idiot savant wizard. |
| Morka02-17-05, 10:41 AM | Gnome Illusionist anyone? The freak alchemist continually mumbling to himself. 3 words: Red Wizard of Thay: shaved skull, red robe, tatoos... The sick wizard who almost die anytime he casts a spell. (Raistlin) The archetype "elf": a stealthy ranger with some arcane spells. The witch: old hag kidnapping children and using their organs as spell components. As TheMightyMcClaw suggested, cute elf girls who wear skimpy clothes. Only, she is a necromancer... |
| Callista02-18-05, 07:57 PM | ...cute elf girls who wear skimpy clothes. Only, she is a necromancer... Ooh, that would be *so* perfect... Too bad we're playing a strongly Good campaign right now, and the party Paladin and Cleric would kick my butt halfway to the Nine Hells and back... |
| Janusunaj02-18-05, 10:25 PM | The all powerful knows everything you know and infinitely more than you and can kill you with their eye lashes as spell reagants to blow you up with a fireball and then torture your soul and then conquer the world after destroying Gaia herself type wizard. |
| leopardmessiah02-19-05, 06:34 PM | The mad lunatic conducting insane, forbiden research in a tower over looking a chasm, with only his monstrous creations for company? The sadistic, insane, treacherous Grand Vizier? Or the Evil Emperor himself, probably planning to sacrifice the world or at least sacrifice a bunch of people in a bid to become a god? All the Good guys were taken.... |
| Draco Strang02-24-05, 04:12 AM | The young, idealistic wizard who watched his master get slain by said master's old apprentice/brother/rival. Then, he sifts through the ashes, finds his mentor's staff (and powers reveal themselves over time) and goes on a quest to mess up the bad guy. |
| Arkonth02-25-05, 05:19 PM | The Wizard who is obviously wiser and infinitely more powerful than you could dream, yet who is completely and totally incapble of carrying out whatever quest he sends you on. |
| Dreaming Bard02-25-05, 11:35 PM | The sickly-pale-bags-under-his-eyes-necromancer type The my-life-goal-is-to-live-forever type The I-know-magic-and-obscure-knowledge-but-nothing-else type. Oh wait they're all like that (just kidding, don't fireball me) |
