| Frylord03-12-07, 12:05 AM | All right, I need help with a backstory of a goblin character of mine, and perhaps more than just the backstory. Appearence: Yellow-skinned, with golden catlike eyes, wears a tattered brown skullcap that lets his pointed ears poke out. If seen without his skullcap, he can be seen with greasy, midnight black hair slicked back to the back of his neck. Gerick (the goblin) also wears studded leather black armor, with extremely dark grey fingerless gloves. On his back is a plum-colored cape that sweeps the floor. Under his armor, Gerick has countless scars, most small, but one running from his right arm, to his left hip, colored a nasty purple. Backstory (for now) Gerick Swifttongue was born to kindly plane-traveling goblin merchants, who saw fit to instruct their child that no creature should be hated, and that most people should be trusted. When he was three years old, Gerick's parents moved to the Prime Material, as it was where they had originally come from. Then, they set up a successful trading business. Gerick had a peaceful childhood, and eventually found a happy-go-lucky goblin lass named Tos and fell in love with her. They married, had a child, and set up a trading business alongside Gerick's parents. But then, tragedy struck. A group of dwarven goblin-slayers came, and slaughtered all of Gerick's loved ones. He tried to fight, but ended up almost dying, barely concious, and having a souviner, a scar from one of the dwarves's battleaxes. As he lay there, dying, he heard them discussing their organization's goals, but only understood five words. "Hand of the Living Mountain." He set out to find ways to kill the dwarves, and found two things. 1. The dwarves didn't seem to use magic much, so killing them with eldritch powers would make their deaths, and humilation, all the sweeter. 2. Apparently, since the goblin race uses mostly stealthly and over-powering with numbers tatics, there was a large pool of untapped magical potiental. (sp?) Armed with these facts, and using the untapped magical potiental of the goblins, Gerick set out to gain fame, power, and money, in order to convice his fellow goblins to join him in a crusade to wipe out the Hand of the Living Mountain. And what would gain him all these things the easiest way? Adventuring of course. What do you think? Suggestions, ideas, insults, critsicm, all are welcome. |

| Frylord03-13-07, 01:32 PM | :bump: No-one wants to comment? :weep: Seriously, is my backstory so lame that nobody wants to help me with it? |
| ToxicWiz03-14-07, 04:26 PM | Seems fine to me. If you want to add more, maybe his prejudices could carry him further. all dwarves are the same to this guy. If dwarves can go slaying goblins, a goblin could do the same. Eventually, he will get his revenge. by drawing them out with killing other dwarves maybe? Another point is that he could develop further hatred for dwarves by asking a tribe of goblins nearby, who told him horrible (and biased) stories of the Dwarven menace. As for motivation, does he even know where the Hand of the Living mountain is? Living Mountain isn't that specific. he could have an obession develop from or start in his backstory. searching for hints of the mountain's location could send him all over the planes. don't be disheartened, I find these boards rather... quiet :D Just my suggestions, It's your character! |
| Frylord03-15-07, 12:30 AM | That makes sense, I WAS planning to do that anyways, but you expanded on it a lot, so thanks! I'll wait for a few more days for more ideas and then thank everyone who gave me ideas. |
| AllWillFall2Me03-16-07, 12:56 AM | I've gotta say, you've got most of the back story pretty well figured out. One thing to consider: friendly, interplanar goblin merchants would probably have no shortage of friends. talk to your DM about having random encounters with people who remember your parents, and are willing to help you out in small ways in their honor. |
| fil kearney03-16-07, 04:29 AM | sounds like this guy is headed for warlock mindbender with lots of minions. charming invocations, planar shifting, acid blasts to eat at rock... stony grasp for flavor. hell.. grab a few levels of wiz and jump into bonded summoner for elemental to use the mountain against the dwarves. my .02. |
| Frylord03-16-07, 08:34 AM | I have one problem. I have Libris Mortis, and that's all the non-core books I have. Which books are the warlock class and bonded summoner in? |
| fil kearney03-16-07, 12:55 PM | warlock and mindbender = complete arcane bonded summoner = mini handbook |
