| TheAnthroDM11-09-06, 12:23 AM | How persay can a evil mage get along with a party that predominantly good, without too much trouble. The current party does not contain a paladin, but will likely have a cleric of a good deity, how would a Neutral evil character adventure with said party without problems starting within the party. Character in question is a Neutral Evil Half-Elf Warlock with a mage complex. The character isn't committed to evil, or an evil deity, and in fact worships Corellon Larethian. The character is more of a power hungry type, "will do anything for power",ect. | Fithero11-09-06, 12:50 AM | If you feel like taking the opinion of someone as stupid as me, i'd tell you that evil people and good people have been travelling together for ages. Evil characters can still be friends with those who are good, though they tend not to use their evil actions against their friends (usually) Think of Vegetta and Goku, those two were two totally different characters, yet they were (eventually) friends, though they kept their different approaches to life. It can cause some different and interesting role playing options, when the good guy wants to spare the prisoners life, while the evil do-er wouldnt bother etc. Hope this helps some. Peace |

| Tjuk11-09-06, 04:47 AM | Maybe the good group has something that you have interrest in ? or you can gain alot of power with your alliance, a sort of double-crossing backstabbing way, but hey, even if for example a rogue steals your wallet, and you don't notice him it wasn't him right ? :D You won't make alot of friends around the table, though you'll have to play together as a team, untill they discover your real identity , And you can always use notes to your DM to improve the gameplay , that it's just you making the descicion, and so the rest of your party doesn't know what your doing, and so keeping it a secret around the table, and it's worth a good laughs for your DM,it's a thing i use quiet often, since well as a mad wizard playing with a group of rogues in a evil campaign you have to carefully watch your step, and you have to screw them back , and it works just fine, as long as the DM can read your handscript (or whatever it's called in english) |

| Clockwork_Apparition11-09-06, 12:31 PM | The character is more of a power hungry type, "will do anything for power",ect. Sometimes the best path to power is that path in which the people delight. Sounds like a quote, huh? No, really. Why does the path to power always conflict with being a good guy? In all honesty, the deisre for power would be a common goal for good and evil people. The intentions and reasoning behind the ambition would differ, but there's no reason a bad guy can't get along, or even work with, a good guy. The only sticking point would be if they could accept each others' actions. "You can't do that! That's evil!" or "No, that's not our responsibility, my noble friend (but, if I perform this little kindness for these peasants, will the social gain be worth the time and effort of myself and my righteous friend?)." I'd be considered a goody two-shoes. I've had and still do have friends that've done some fairly dark things, but putting moral codes over onto others only works if you attempt to persuade the person out of their mindset (unless you're willing to smite a friend, and then is it evil to so quickly dissolve loyalty?). The ultimate mantra of the good guy concerned with the life and safety of others is that "Good redeems." Enjoy and thank you! |
| Clockwork_Apparition11-09-06, 12:35 PM | I'd be considered a goody two-shoes. Or at least as far as you know. |
| PiedmonSama11-09-06, 12:44 PM | There's nothing really getting in your way from getting along with the rest of the party. Even Raistlin managed to more-or-less get along with the rest of the companions for a long time. In fact, any type of Arcanist class is probably the best choice to be evil-aligned in a good-aligned group, because (at low levels particularly) they're the most dependant on other classes. Sure you may think that Fighter, Rogue and Cleric are goody-two-shoe-pannywaists who will ultimately try to block your glorious path to power. But for right now, today, you need that spell of Cure Light Wounds, that 200 lb. wall of metal taking all the punishment, and you need that little grease-monkey to make sure spikes aren't going to fly out of a random door and kill you at any second. Heck, you don't even have to conceal your alignment from your fellows. When an opportunity to do some good comes up, lazily mutter "what's in it for me?" always suggest the most expedient/heinous course of action you can think of, disregarding morality. But when the rest of the party balks, agree to tow the line. It isn't worth impeding your ultimate goal to fall out over such a petty issue. As long as you never outright state "well, I'm neutral evil," your comrades will probably just assume you're a hard neutral with violent tendencies. =p |

XD I'll make sure to keep that sheet of lead handy around the cleric XD But will my hand holding it register as evil O.o? XD Thanks for all the help guys, I think I'll be able to put some of your suggestions to good use. As for the "why is power always evil?" things Two reasons: 1. Power Corrupts 2. It's accautly the will do anything part, more than the power itself. |
| Dunamin11-09-06, 06:05 PM | XD I'll make sure to keep that sheet of lead handy around the cleric XD But will my hand holding it register as evil O.o? Make a handle on the back, effectively turning it into a shield? Or bash the cleric over the head with the sheet, before he can focus in on you. |
| TheAnthroDM11-09-06, 06:12 PM | Or bash the cleric over the head with the sheet, before he can focus in on you. hahaha nothing says don't use detect evil like an eldritch blast =D |

| Sang-Drax11-11-06, 12:15 PM | I guess it all depends on how evil you want the character to be. In real life, people can be evil even if they don't kill, don't steal or otherwise commit crimes and such. It's not that difficult to be evil and still be accepted by society. Take, for instance, people who are cruel with children. To be cruel doesn't mean you have to torture or kill children, just being extremely rude to them is certainly Mind you, while even a paladin may be arrogant and rude, being aggressive with children, sick, and little animals is an obvious display of evil. it shows how does someone behaves when he holds power. Being extremely unsensitve to other people's feelings might prove just as mean. Take, for instance, a Lawful Evil character in a predominantly Good party. Let's say a citizen has just being victim of torture by a killer of some sort. The said citizen is, obviously, quite terrified for what has just happened. He or she is talking about what happens, sobbing all the way, interrupting him/herself to cry and so on. The Lawful Evil character, then, says, "dude, come on, cut that crap out. We don't care how afraid you are, just tells us how the hell the guy looked like", and stuff like that. You see, maybe this character is just as eager to catch the criminal as the party's paladin, but he really doesn't care to the victim. He doesn't care to other people's suffering - he's motivated by something else, be the law, or maybe he doesn't want himself to fall victim to the same crime. |
| HaikenEdge11-11-06, 01:34 PM | I play Neutral Evil character exclusively, and the thing that I learned is that, just because I'm evil doesn't mean my heart can't be in the right place. Murder, torture and all sorts of unethical stuff, done for the greater good. That's the way to gang with the good guys. If they get squeamish, just ask them to wait outside while you "take care of some business". |
| Need_A_Life11-11-06, 05:36 PM | Should be no problem, just don't burn down any orphanages and r*pe the corpses, 'kay? Seriously, alignment is how you approach a situation and does not determine how you'll solve it. Most of the time your ideas will coincide with your allies', even if you don't share a 'G' in the alignment field. If they use detect evil and say "YOU'RE EVIL!!!" just laugh nervously and ask them what the f**k they're talking about, seeing as how your character would be unlikely to consider himself so. If you don't commit any serious crimes you might even become the moral compass of the group (unlikely, but it can happen) |
| Kitaki11-21-06, 01:10 PM | I find playing NE in a mostly good group not terribly difficult. The main reason your with them? NE characters do what is most benefical for them, and in this case, working with the goody good stooges is the most benefical thing. HaikenEdge is right, you can do the right thing, just do it in the wrong way. You need to sneak into the orc camp to rescue the mayor's daughter, hire a random caravan to go near the orcs when you plan on sneaking in, sure you just put a whole bunch of innocent people at risk, but a number of orcs are no longer in the camp aren't they? |

Better yet, max your your ranks in stealth skills (or grab that invisibility invocation) and sneak in when they're sleeping, then proceed to CdG every sleeper you find. You've just committed mass murder, but you've gotten rid of all those extra orcs and you've saved the mayor's daughter. |
