Getting strange with the bard. [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-06-06, 08:35 PM The current idea...on a conceptual level anyway. Is to go for seeker of the song...nonthing fancy there. However...there are a few silly options worth looking into along the way.

The character will be aasimar. This is primarilly a RP choice, and has lead me to a strange idea.

Bard 2/Paladin of Freedom 8/Seeker 10
Using the Devoted performer feat of course.
I would likely be taking dodge/combat expertise/defensive strike along the way. Due to the help from rapture of the song and other various aides (perhaps that cloakdancer thing from frostburn) I could get a rather obnoxious armor class. The idea being that I play my songs for primary effect, and use my weapons (whatever they may be) purely defensively.

Now...I need advice on a few points.
What manner of instrument should I play? (or which perform should I be using in general) This matters a great deal, as it affects what weapons can be used with it while maintaining concentration. My current idea is to play ether violin or viola and take improved unarmed strike to kick things that dislike me...relying on an amulet of mighty fists or the ilk to boost the damage. This does make him appear a good deal less imposing, and fits the idea well...but it sounds oooooh so cheesy. Other options include simple singing or dancing, which can easilly be fit into a normal fighting routine...but I would rather be playing an instrument...much rather. And no miming...none.

General ideas for background can be thrown around as well. I am in the brainstorming phase there as well, and any input is useful.

Have at it...anything that comes to mind.

here's a funny idea, play a Kazoo!

and uhm.. hmmm.. a flute sounds best, but if you want to fight while playing, then I have no idea. Also I don't believe that bardic music can be used with dancing, similar to how it can't be used with weapon drill.

Advice for background is appreciated at this point. I have a good general idea, but I am far, far, too tired to type it up now. Any suggestions are welcome, and I will get a tentative write up posted tommorow likely.
