| Candide09-08-06, 01:34 AM | The gnomes in the world that our gaming group play in are like the Dragonlance gnomes. Tinkerers, etc. They have 3 types of names. The first is the name given to him by his parents, that consists of the entire family tree all the way back to the first gnome. The second type is a shortened version of the first type, only it takes just a few hours to go through rather than days. It highlights certain members of the family lineage. The last type is a singular name that Humans/lesser races give the gnome so as to identify him/her. usually these are descriptors, the gnome wizard in our group is named Sparky. I had a gnome named Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate, though that name doesn't fit the above descriptor. Its from Dr. Seuss, as many gnomish inventions could be |

They find it hilarious (if a little annoying) when know-it-all humans correct their pronunciation. "No, the g is silent..." The dwarves have the same kind of thing with the kn sound as found in our words knight or knife, though they tend to pronounce common language words the way humans would. |

| RatKing09-11-06, 06:04 PM | Actually, in every campaign I've played in the gome has had a really long name. Most recently I'm playing with William von hortez steven jim donut trouble safty ham von lederhosen the third the third. He adds new names whenever he thinks of one. In another campaign the player had to use a seperate piece of paper for his name and the DM ruled that if he recited the whole thing it acted like a sleep spell. |
