| Krunk The Smasher07-29-03, 10:46 AM | I just recently began a new game and my character to this point is a lvl 3 Gnome Rogue (His name is Dobie. He is 36 years old, so being a bit immature, not yet reaching adulthood) who has had many problems with his pranks backfiring. Because of this, he is considering opting for becoming a Druid and forsaking the life of larceny. Any ideas on how I can RP this idea? I was thinking something along the lines of this: He feels betrayed by his god b/c of ppl's misunderstanding of both himself and his pranks, so, discouraged, he feels that maybe nature will embrace him and provide for him the companionship that city life has withheld. Does this perhaps sound like a good start? |
| Basaxerxes the First07-29-03, 11:29 AM | Perhaps one of his pranks backfired on the wrong person, and he was forced to go and hide in the woods for while, where he was taken under the wing of the local druid and realized the error of his ways? |
| Twilly07-29-03, 11:31 AM | Do you want ideas how to roleplay this guy or do you want help to create a nice background/story to explain the sudden change to embrace nature? |
| Krunk The Smasher07-29-03, 11:50 AM | Hi Twilly, I am looking for some good options on how to role play this character. I have never played a druid before and I think that the 3 lvls of rogue I have already taken could prove interesting in roleplaying... like maybe I could live the rest of my life as a Druid and be in total denial of the past or maybe give myself this whole astetic (sp?) turn where I deny myself material wealth as an act of self-imposed penance? |

Due to his changed ways and being a druid he could use this information to stop the butchering of animals for hides and the way of knowing the dark to stalk his enemies in the forest. Tracking down anyone harming the forest or animals of the forest will know now that a hunter of the dark is amongst the ranks of the druids.... play him as someone who wants to help the forest and use his abilities he has right now and abilities he will receive as a druid to hunt down the ones hurting his duties of the forest. |
| Krunk The Smasher07-29-03, 12:17 PM | Hey shadow... that is very good idea... thanks! |
| Shadowlighting07-29-03, 12:18 PM | no problem |
| Shadowlighting07-29-03, 12:21 PM | If you look into the Unapproachable East "Forgotten Realms" book there is a Prestige Class that’s called something like "Wood Master or something" that’s like a Rogue/Druid I believe. Look into that. |
| Twilly07-29-03, 03:57 PM | Defend the forests with your own jokes and pranks. Make unwanted visitors feel unwelcome not by confronting them directly but use a more subtel aproach. You can still try to be funny. Try to create your own made feary tales and ghost-strories. Make it your job that everybody believes that the feary tales are considered to be true. Your first false story could be about a little gnome that was no longer welcome in the nearby village. And one day he dissapeared in the woods. He died a horrible death and now he is a ghost. The ghost haunts the forrest seeking revenge against all the villagers. Try to scare of the little kids first, so they can tell your frightning story to their parents. |
| eagleye07-31-03, 05:21 PM | that's a wonderful concept Krunk! you could perhaps go a little dramatice and do a mood-change the first couple of weeks in the forest, the gnome being very serious, not making any jokes and scaring everyone away with the use of his hiding skills and ghost sound/prestigidation etc. he could be known as the Grim Defender of the forest, known very well by the feral inhabitants but never seen yet spoken about amongst the habitants of the city. you could also take a more light-hearted way and have him become friends with pixies, putting pranks on the travallers. you could perhaps presuade your DM to let you have a pixie as an animal companion (after a couple of sessions of good roleplay after the initional meating of you two ofcoure). |
| Trydan08-04-03, 08:40 AM | Maybe he was enchanted/charmed by some fey? Perhaps a prank damaged a tree and the dryad/faerie/nymph has "persuaded" him to change his ways. Now he takes the side of the natural world, but he's jsut not sure why. |
| Electricall08-04-03, 06:49 PM | It's simple. Most gnomes live in the green, see? He just returns to the old ways of his people. That's why they have the Speak with animals ability you know... |
