Gnomish Giant-Slayer [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-27-06, 08:14 AM Im in the construction stages of a gnome who hates giants.

I mean *really* hates giants, to the point that it has become an obsession for him. He sees no differance in the various sub-races of giants, and will just as quickly kill a storm giant as he would a frost of fire giant.

Mechanic-wise, he is a whisper gnome who will be a straight ranger10/ gnome giant-slayer10. Im thinking that he will be good, though when it comes to giants, he will become somewhat (if not completly) evil, stopping at nothing, having no mercy what so ever.

The problem i need help with is, for what reason would a gnome be driven to such lengths as to hunt giants with such ferocity. True that most if not all gnomes hate giants, but even other gnomes find this characters views somewhat extreme (he is genocidal).

Im not looking for the old "giants killed my family" or "they wiped out my village", im in need of something that would drive a person to make the eradication of giants his life goal.

Any help would be great.

11-27-06, 10:36 AM Napoleon Complex, he is willing to tolerate those moderatly taller than himself (Medium size) but absolutely loathes anoything larger, why Giants specifically, thats a bit of a tough one tho.

If i went with this, it would be for "anyone who is big enough to step on me" sort of thing (thus, medium sized creatures wouldnt be hated)

But im looking for a very prominant event, that is most likely well known publically, that the character survived. It has to be big enough that bards are singing tales about it, and when he says "yeah, i survived *insert horrible event*" everyone in the room shuts up.

But what i need help with is the event that happened.

Perhaps the giants did infact destory his town, but tortured and ate all the gnome villagers. Or they had a great castle in the moutains where they use gnomes as slaves/food.

I dont know, im drawing a blank.
