| Sakon2203-31-08, 11:25 PM | I've just joined a pbp game set in the Iron Kingdoms and was instantly attracted to the Gobber (like goblins but less underpowered,) race and the everpresent steampunk of the setting. Not wanting to delve too much into a setting I know so little about I decided against using the settings new classes (because I couldn't find the books or stats for 'em,) and just decided to be a rogue with the skills necessary for a profession in steamworks (I managed to find a bunch of IK skills somewhere.) I've spent a long while trying to think up a way to justify this through background and I'm mostly drawing a blank. This is what I've been thinking so far: Ragnok (the character in question,) was born into the usual squalor of Gobber life and was more-or-less like the others. He was slightly more keen to observe laws, inquire about how and why the world worked and was gifted with great intelligence, but otherwise a normal Gobber. Then one day a broken steamjack (think steam power warforged titan,) was found near his home and Ragnok started fiddling with its remains. Sometime later humans were sent to recover the wreck and noticed that the young Gobber had jerry rigged it into a semi-operational condition. They quickly saw the value of the little savant and whisked him away to civilization to learn the trade of a steamworksman. After several years of apprenticeship he became a partner to a rather formidable company (or some other comfy position, the blank starts here.) Then something terrible happened (likely due to anti-gobber sentiments,) and Ragnok was forced into a life of crime, where his mechanical knowledge was tested against locks, traps and other devices. Little brainstorming of ideas and advice from people who know the setting might be just the kickstart my brain needs. |
