| wonderboy0612-11-05, 03:24 PM | Ok, I have a Goblin Rogue 3 that I' going to turn into a swashbuckler. But maybe I sould give you a little back story first. Feng Mezzik was a normal Goblin, his small tribe was lead by an Ogre. Where most Goblins were content, Feng hated it. Being bullied by a big dumb Ogre is not what he had planed for his existence. So when the classic "Ogre kidnapped the mayors daughter" situation cropped up. Feng found himself wandering into the human town and informing the human militia where the Goblin tribe was located and where the Ogre was keeping the girl. In exchange he was allowed to live just outside of town. Since he would have no home after the humans finished exterminating the Goblins and Ogre. So on his first adventure the party saved a town from a covenant of pirates, slavers, and lizardfolk. In the process they accumulated quite a large amount of valuables. Mainly a sailing ship, a keel boat, 22,000 gp worth of stolen loot They gave a huge potion of it back to the town. Keeping only 8,000 gp that was splint amongst themselves. Not to mention about a third of that was spent in the town on equipment and what not. So now I have a couple of questions. How would Feng be viewed in the town now? Would Feng have any real conection with his Goblin heritage or would he not care anymore? |

Is your goblin one of the proud adventurers who gave so much money to the town, or are you the DM and wondering how to have the NPC reacts before him? What alignment is this goblin? About his first adventure, there is two ways to see it: 1) Softened by the mayor's daughter, and sick of his brethren's cruelty, he decided to flee and join his tribe's foes, the humans (some kind of Drizzt goblin). 2) Too intelligent for his own good, he was sick of being bullied by the ogre. He deliberately used the humans to kill him, and now he looks for the goblin survivors to restart a tribe where he will be the leader. About the townfolks, I don't think they will ever trust the goblin. Half of them will think you can never trust a goblin. The mayor probably doesn't trust him, but owe him his daughter life, so he somewhat allow him in the town, but he have the guards watch him closely. A few ones, especially the younger ones (and the mayor's daughter, depending on how she saw the whole adventure), could consider him a friend. |

Like any adventurer rising to fame he stands a chance. Since he is such an oddety his fame might even spread faster then usual. He remains a goblin though and those that don't know him will not trust him easily. In fact he might have a bigger problem on his hands, maybe the word of him betraying his own tribe might have spread among other goblin tribes and he becomes a hated coward despised and hunted by his kind. It ofcourse makes a very interesting character. |

What we may see as cowardly, goblins see as....well...normal. To paraphrase a magic card "To be a goblin hero you don't need to step forward, merely be the one that doesn't step back". |
