The character is in love with Explosive Runes and puts them on anything and everything he can. Characters to Make Neutral Evil human wizard jerk who puts explosive runes on random things. Go into town with a ring of invisibility and graffiti the whole place with them. Have a Ring of Wizardry of the appropriate level to double the number of explosive runes. Heck, get scrolls and wands of it. Put them on paper, then slide the papers under the doors of civilian's homes. Have a tattoo with explosive runes on it whenever the need arises. Write "Explosive Runes" on a note, then pass it to the DM. Find a way to Permanancy Maximized Enlarged Explosive Runes, then carve a giant "PWN" into a boulder. The next time the priest offers to let the party rest in the church for the night, put ER on all of the holy texts. If I ever see vandalism: "For a good time..." or some such thing, carve "I hate vandals" and put ER on it. Offer to make flash cards for the local educational facility for learning reading or writing, and put ER on them. Any contract I ever sign will have ER in my signature. I will always toss a copper to a street performer, with a carved ER on it. Have ten levels in Mindbender, and daily force my thrall to read ERs. I was hoping you guys could help me come up with a background for this guy. Do you think the alignment is appropriate? He really only cares for himself, and just likes to cast Explosive Runes a lot. Yeah, its not the best combat tactic, but he prefers to stop a fight before it begins. Perhaps keep a list of all of the people that anger him, so that he can take revenge later. I also want to apologize. I usually make my own backgrounds, so I never really read this sub-forum, thus I don't quite know how to word this thing. |

It felt so good to him that it became an addiction. Another possibility is that he just is insane and likes to make things go boom, and if so I would suggest taking a feat from the Feat book, under quest feats, where the character has been separated from the world so long that they no longer have an alignment as testament to their insanity. He may be an elitist that believes that if people aren't intelligent enough to avoid triggering an Explosive Rune, then they deserve to get hit by it, and this could be caused by either feelings of inferiority in his past, or because of an elitist mentor. That or, the character might just have acknowledged that hurting people gave him a good feeling, most likely due to the adrenaline, and got somewhat addicted to that, and seeing as Explosive Runes is near guaranteed to hurt somebody at some time down the road, with little chance of the bad feeling of being punished. On an unrelated note that makes my post even more lengthy, you may want to watch out for any Good or even some Neutrals in your party, as that is likely to cause some serious in-party conflict. If you're in an all evil party though, so long as you don't hurt them with the Runes, you'll be fine. |

With the amount of damage your character can provide, I'll give you one more thing to watch out for: a powerful entity (demon, overlord, even a deity) looking for someone to stir up as much trouble as possible. If you're familiar with Stephen King's "The Stand," there's a character in there that loves setting fire to anything and everything. A true pyro, and a doppleganger for your character if there ever was one. Don't bother with watching the MFTV version, go straight to the book, and read how that character gets approached by the Devil, who tasks him with plans of his own. I can see your character being equally targeted, and just as quickly used up or tossed aside. Don't let your desire to cause mayhem keep him from being just a loose cannon: giving him a purpose means giving his mayhem a target, not just an excuse for random violence. Keep in mind, the more wanton destruction he causes, the more enemies he'll make, the more his face and a suitable bounty will be posted on every village square, and the more likely a group of powerful dudes will come a-knocking on his door some moonless night. Dripping with automatic dispells and protection wards, of course. (:^D) -- Nivalldier |

Maybe grab a hat of disguise or use alter self to disguise him as a known spell caster in the city/town that he is currently inhabiting, and have him use ER in very public places, then run away (via dimension door or something). Just for the hell of it of course, no prior grudge or even acquaintance with the impersonated caster is needed. However, answering the alignment question, I see this character as more CE than NE. He doesn't really get anything beyond amusement from using ER, and NE characters are usually motivated mainly by greediness and self interest. CE characters, however, love to cause chaos and destruction for no particular reason, which fits this character perfectly. |
