As a companion in a soon to start campaign for Thurt (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=913906) & for Remmin (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=918998) I give you Gol Morren, a goblin swordsage. I know it's a little long but lemme know what you guys think.

"I am specialist Gol Morenn. I served under Captain Thurt D’Deneith for several years in the last war after joining his house's mercenary corps. While I am unable to discuss my full record due to the classified nature of some of my service record, I can cover the basics.”

“I joined the Deneith corps as a mercenary 7 years ago. After completing basic training I was assigned to the Blademarks. My unique training prior to joining the house’s service caused my commanders to take note and I was shortly transferred to serve with the Sentinals. There I was assigned to Captain Deneith and I am glad to say I was able to serv with distinction in numerous roles. I received several commendations for valor; including the Order of the Adamant Shield, which was awarded me for defending both my commander and Lieutenant Ir’Reven of Aundair after being ambushed by a Karnathi commander who was supposed to be meeting us to discuss a cease fire and possible prisoner exchange. I was able to not only defend the two commanding officers, but to get them to a safe position where they were able to gather reinforcements and secure a defensible position until reinforcements arrived.”

“When the last war ended I requested permanent assignment under my captain and was granted such with status as a personal bodyguard. When Captain Deneith requested his reprieve from duty to meet with you I did the same.”

“That’s very well put Gol. Though I do wish you would call me Thurt. Given that you’ve saved my life on more than one occasion it seems only fair you should.”

Thurt looked from the goblin to the others in the room “He’s always been like that; a true professional. There have been more than a few times he has put me to shame with his ability to hold that professional stance, regardless of circumstance. And I assure you that, despite his stature, he more than lives up to the reputation for skill he has earned.” Turning back to Gol, Thurt spoke again “However it’s a little aside the fact. I wasn’t asking for a service record. I asked you to tell our new companions about yourself. That means both a little something of what you’ll bring with you to our little group and, hopefully something of where you came from.”

“Very well, Sir. As stated before I possessed a unique training even before I entered into Deneith service. I was born in The Cogs of the city of Sharn. There I grew up with goblins who had adopted the human “family” structure over the more common tribal forms. Being unusually strong and fast for a goblin would have guaranteed me a position of strength in a tribal structure but in a family it was my unusual perception, my ability to learn more quickly and pick up on more subtle details than many of my brethren, which marked me out. My father eventually apprenticed me to a warrior who had studied the ancient ways and I left The Cogs for the ruins of an old Dhaakan city underneath Sharn. There I trained in the arts of the swordsage, a tradition passed on from ancient days of warriors who could achieve nearly magical effects with their weapons. When I reached sufficient skill my mentor marked me as prepared and sent me on a journey to prove myself in the human’s war. There I met my commander and the rest I have already told you.”

In Gol’s early life amongst the goblins he often saw might making right despite his family upbringing. His time training both in the ruins with his old master and in the military left him with much the same impression of worldly order. However, upon joining Thurt’s forces he for the first time in his life saw a person in a position of supremacy truly trying to build up those under him. Thurt’s attempts to strengthen his men, regardless of personal profit, were a bit of a shock to Gol and forced him to re-evaluate his position on leadership. He has since developed a strong bond of mutual respect with Thurt, though he still views him as his commander.

this is a very interesting fellow. I like him. He's loyal, but not blindly. I'm going to use my own advice and try to extrapolate a couple beliefs for him.

1. Might makes right. The victor gets to say what is justice. This is the way of things. (his old belief)
2. Captain Thurt is an enigma of a creature. His selflessness intrigues immensely and makes me respect him. I will come to understand his ways.
3. Loyality is precious in this world and it is core to my being. I will display unwavering loyality to my commander.

the first belief is a reflection of his older ideas. And it probably will (or has) caused an immense amount of inner conflict for himself during his tenure with captain Thurt. has that changed yet?

The game should be starting Monday. Since I'm going to be Thurt and Gol will actually be another player's character it will be fun to see what happens there. Still it is a nice point for the other player to look at.

:bump: Only one? Maybe I shouldn't have started the challenge so soon after posting this fellow.

I know what you mean, dude. :P

I can't recall if you said which of the nine swords Gol specializes in. Have you (or your friend, I suppose) decided on one? He seems a bit controlled/devoted to be a Tiger Claw adept, despite how fun it would be to see a golbin tearing things violently apart in battle. lol

Whatever he specializes in, you should try and work that into his character somehow.

He's splitting his attention up but so far it looks like shadow hand (for stealth/offense) with side focuses in setting sun (for defense/battlefield control) and stone dragon (for defense/offense)

Alright, do you know what weapon set he got the Swordsage's effective "Weapon Focus" with? I'm assuming Shadow Hand...

My Shadowhand-specialized Swordsage vigilante (not the class), although cheery and fairly talkative most of the time, kept many (to him, unimportant) secrets. He wore cloaks and concealed weapons beneath them, and always had some sort of (often dirty) trick up his sleeve.
Oddly enough, he also was very team-oriented, what with making sure he and his party members always flanked opponents.

Anything you can take from that?

precision bonus damage. try to work in the improved feint feat somewhere in there if you can for some extra sneak attack damage.
