| SplendidTuesday12-07-07, 11:37 PM | Well, y'see, I picked up Dragon Magzine Issue 341, which has a bunch of golems in it, and I want to make a wizard (not artificer, as I don't have that book) obsessed with golems, making more of them, and learning about them. Unfortunatly, as seems to be normal for me, I cannot think of a good concept for the life of me, only a few possible details are in my grasp. 1st option for the background: Delefarian (Odd name, so sue me. Also, he'll be Del for short), was born a child of a poor human blacksmith. The blacksmith, already having many children, was forced to send his youngest son, (Del) to a dwarven friend of his. Fortunatly for Del, the dwarven friend was a wizard, and provided him a wizarding apprenticeship along with food, board, and the neccesites. Del however, never took in interest in most kinds of magic. He was however, extremely interested in the complexities of his mentor's iron golem guardian. He spent much time around it, studying the artifical creature in his spare time. Either that or Del might be a dwarf himself. Aaaand, thats about all I can think of. Again, can anyone help with an improved background? As I learn new ideas for backgrounds, I'll ask less newbie questions about them, making yours and mine life easier. So, it would be efficent and easy to help me. |
| Think002812-09-07, 05:06 PM | Hmm. Let's assume we keep the dwarven angle. Maybe he was raised with an engineer? He was fascinated with little toy soldiers that the engineer made for children, and entered an apprenticeship with him in order to learn how to build bigger and better versions of these. Eventually, as he completed his studies, he saw that clockwork soldiers grew more and more difficult and more fragile as they increased in size. His dream was to create clockwork people, that functioned as living things and could work and play. Frustrated, he started to research, and discovered the art of golem making. He immersed himself in studying the art... And from here, it depends. Is he an adventurer? Leaves to learn more about magic and the making of golems. Good? He's developing these golems to help humanity. Evil? He finds a secret golem that requires human souls, but the procedure is incomplete. He obsesses over this golem and lets nothing stand in his way. There are multiple turning points from here. |

Hey maybe he was brought up by warforged in a mono warforged community and wanted to know how the "breed" and create better children than average... wait now I'm rambeling off about something else entirely... sorry. |
