OK, one of my friends will proably be starting a campaign soon (I've been DMing for a while, which while fun is alot of work, and I realy want to give being a player a go) and I'm thinking rogue.

It starts at level one, so I know what class I will be.

Thing is how to play it. I have afew concepts in my head, and I want to see what you all think. My priorities are as follows: Fun (lots to do in and out of combat, stratagy, options), Flavor (Different and non-steriotypical while being cool), Resonable Power (I like being able to shine, I don't like being at a disadvantage. Dosn't need to be Pun-Pun, but I got to be able to survive and make an impact)

OK, my first Idea is the half orc Rogue. Play as a kind of thug/bruser, focusing on intimidation, stealth, and combat. Generaly speaking this guy is not going to be nice, and I'm not sure weather this is going to be a mostly evil or good group, or how much it will matter, but I want this guy evil. My general idea is he's the type who will run away from a fight only to stalk you and whack you over the head with a lead pipe from the shadows. I'm thinking becoming an assassin as soon as possible, and maby taking a level or two of ranger (Favored enemy: human). Nasty person, but fun, and I liek the nontraditional idea of a half orc rogue.

Changling rogue. Bluffing, deception, manipulation, disguise, yada, yada, yada. Complete archtype of a changling, not that original, I know, but I wouldn't mind doing it. I just don't realy know how well it would fit in a dungeon, or with a party (your usual band of psychopathic kleptomaniacs out to save the world).

These are the two things I'm considering. I'm leaning toward the half orc, but I want to know how to make him fun. UMD seams like a good idea, though the charisma penalty is a pain. From an RP perspective I NEED a decent intelegence, as I like being smart, coming up with ideas and such, and I hate playing stupid.

I don't have much experience playing evil. The Half-orc sounds pretty cool though. What type of stat gen are you doing? Point buy, rolls, something else? The CHA penalty is gonna be a "PITA". He doesn't need super high INT I would think this guy is more Wis oriented. Sure you don't want dumb as a stump INT but a 12-14 should do ya. this is what I would do with a trad point buy of 28 starting at 8.

After Racial adjustments
Str:12
Dex:16
Con:10
Int:12
Wis:12
Cha:10

This guy is going to take levels in fighter or barb at some point if you are honest with yourself it's most likely fighter. This will help with some of the lacking in stats more HP and an improvement on Fort saves.

Just my first ideas, on reading your post. I am sure I am not telling you anything you don't already know. Sometimes there's a reason certain races don't go for certain classes. It's a cool idea and I think you sould go for it.

OK. I think I'll go ranger, because playing evil I can get favored enemy human (which makes sence for him, he's a murderous thief) and it gives me 2 weapon fighting+Track, the first of which works with well with sneak attack, and the second of which isn't that special, but is free, which makes it good in my book.

This is very similar to a character build I once worked on, only the dude was an evil half-elf, instead of evil half-orc. The recommendation I'd make is to consider the Urban Ranger variant. I forget which book it's in, but you can find it on the Hypertext d20 SRD online.
