| Nelyo12-12-05, 02:10 PM | I'm working on a background for a Lawful Neutral half blue dragon who has sworn an oath of service to another player's Chaotic Neutral enchantress. What we can't seem to figure out though, is what her enchantress did to cause my character to swear the oath. What I'm looking for are some suggestions as to some good reasons for my character (or a character in general) to make an oath of lifelong service to another person, other than, say, saving his life. |
| kntshade12-12-05, 02:24 PM | 1. She saved something or someone the half-dragon loved. 2. The half-dragon worships her like a deity. 3. She raised the half-dragon from the egg and he feels she is his mother. 4. She has something the half-dragon wants, and says after he does X she will give it to him. 5. She has blackmailed the half-dragon. 6. The half-dragon has fallen in love with her. (Beauty and the Beast?) Those are just off the top of my head real quick… I’m sure there are some better ideas, or you could expand upon any of those for a really interesting story. |

But according to the oaths you two swore as long as your character serves her faithfully she will not. Oh and you could also have the oath's second part - perform well in her service for X years and she may give you the responsibility of protecting/enhancing the item/people/village to you. So figure out what your character loves so much that he would live his life in protection of it, because you said it was a lifelong oath. In the adventures try to work the LN character up from bodyguard to loyal advisor. Oh final question - what class/classes are you? |

To answer erbmjw, my character is mainly a fighter, with a couple levels of monk and half-dragon paragon (Jaerom Darkwind's version) thrown in. The other player hasn't quite settled on an exact class, but she's going to be a half-fey, and her class is likely to be either a cleric of Olidammara, a sorcerer, or a wizard specialized in enchantment. I think she's leaning towards one of the arcane casters at the moment (Wild Mage is looking appealing), but she doesn't currently have access to any books, so she doesn't want to commit to one. One thing that might be helpful to note is that we're both trying to break out of our roleplaying habits. I have a tendency to play intelligent spellcasters, so I'm trying to play a melee fighter with a below average intelligence. She has a tendency to play honest, straightforward characters and hasn't played a full spellcaster yet, so she's making someone who's manipulative. We're both kind of exploring new territory. |

Keep the second part intact so that you have reason to stay with her through thick and thin - ie you will be given responsibility and authority over X Good luck with the role playing. |

Or reveal the secert to a secert village of half-Dragons, kind of like the co-existant village in Fire Emblem (first american GBA one) |
