| allenchan06-19-04, 07:20 PM | So Im starting up a new campaign soon and Im going to be playing a Grimlock. Currently he has a level of barbarian, but after that I think Im going to have him go into the Ninja class from Rokugan, and giving him ranks in hide and move silently, so he's going to be a stealthy hunter that uses brute force (Contradictory? Maybe). He's also going to be CN, and its a campaign thats statring above ground. :) |
| Mysteria06-20-04, 03:27 AM | Hm ... what about putting a question in your post? :D What do you need help with? Personality, background, both? Do you have an idea of how he is going to interact with other people, what his game statistics will be and where he might come from? Do you have a name, a reason for his alignement, etc, ... or are you just waiting for somebody to hand you a fully formed character concept on a plate? |
| allenchan06-20-04, 04:10 AM | Sorry! It was late when I wrote that and I was tired :D His name is Rockfang (horrbile, but fitting with what their suggested names are from the Underdark book). He's chaotic because he's a barbarian, and many Grimlocks are neutral. His pack was too concerned with survival to really be 'evil'. Game statistics? He has no stat below 12, besides Cha which is 10. ECL 5, 39 HP, 23 AC My real questions are: 1) Why would a Grimlock want to rely on stealth? 2) Why would he be above ground? I had an idea that maybe his home area was being overrun by illithids or something, but Im not sure if even that can give him a reason to be above-ground :( I just know the campaign will be going into the underdark, and it'd be cool if one of us was from there. 3) any interesting reason for him to have an adamantine greataxe? (Besides that he found it, hehe) |
| Mysteria06-21-04, 07:06 AM | Well, let's see. His home was overrun by Illithid, so I guess he fled to survive, probably all alone. Being alone, he might have reasoned that it would be better to sneak past any trouble he might encounter instead of barging right into it. This strategy served him well, as he has survived until now. If he was discovered however, her relied on his rage and his strength to get him out of trouble again. Maybe he was discovered by an adamantine axe-wielding drow once and he kept the axe. Maybe it was the very first fight he had to see through all by himself. Now, why would he be above ground? Maybe the drow was a lowly drow, but still of an important house? Maybe it was a female drow that was supposed to be trained as a priestess of Lolth? Maybe even that drow stole the axe and other drow were looking for the thief. They found out that your char had the axe and were/are tracking him. As the drow don't much like being aboveground, your char decided that he'd give the aboveground a try to escape his trackers? Would that work? :) |

Painted-on eyes, the better to trick the dark elves into wasting Lolth's gift of darkness on someone it can't possibly hinder. Just remember: they've got Darkvision, which won't penetrate fog. magical darkness, or invisbility. You've got blindsight, allowing you to totally ignore all of the above. As for the axe, how about this: you once snuck up on a Drow abusing a Dwarvish prisoner. With the advantage of surprise, you were able to silence and incapacitate the drow with a single mighty blow before she could react. The dwarf professed eternal gratitude and vowed to follow you around untill he could return the favor. Not wanting to be stuck with someone who obviously wasn't as good at avoiding the drow as you (got caught, after all), you turned down the offer and left with the axe. The last time you heard the dwarf, he was blathering something about "weapon of my ancestors" and "unarmed and handcuffed", but you like to think he made it out somehow. |
