| Fort deadly kick06-13-05, 04:25 PM | It an upcoming campaign, I wanted to go with a slightly weaker but more versatile character. In this campaign we asked the DM if we could play in a bit more of a free enviroment (we had recently finished a very open ended BESM champain which was really enjoyable, everone had a different agenda, and the DM managed to keep the story together, while everone had a cool 'miniquest'). So he made a campaign in a masive city, like city of Ankmorpork, but with D&D inhabitants and stuff.. For this campaign, I wanted a kind of battle wizard, and I can't remember where from, maybe MTG, but I got the idea of Ogre mage. I convered this to a realistic D&D character and came up with a Half orc wizard character, Grix Thraves. The story: He was found by a traveling member of a magic college out in a remote dustbowl somewhere. He looked to be the only survivor of a raid by something on a human settlement. He was taken back to the college and enrolled in the orphan classesin the school (not sure what they are called) Over time, he grew much bigger and broader than eny of his fellow wizards, and had yet to master the calmness required to memorise the spells. As a result, he could not remember many spells, and they tended to fluctuate wildly in power. Because of his appearance, he was often mocked by the other students, who were conversely reedy and short in their apparel. One day he lost his temper with one such taunting student, and broke out between them. Grix demanded that the other student shut up and duel him. in the ensuing duel, Grix gave up on his magic, and killed the other student with a table. Not only had Grix killed a student, but it happened to be the son of an influencial scholar within the collage. The teacher who had found him all that time ago, in the dustbowl, feared Grix would be lynched and took him aside to talk to him. He revealed that Grix was not wholly human, and was in fact Half orc by birth. His parents had not been killed, and his mother had instead, asked him to take him somewhere where his origin and blood would not haunt him, and he would be recognised for his true skills. With only a Collage robe, his wits, and his wand, Grix now has to escape the retrebution of the college, and make his own way in the harsh metropolis of CITYNAME! As you can see, it is cheesy as hell, and I also could use some help filling in things like 'orphan classes' and some of the D&D equivilents that I've got down. Other than that, does this charcter sound plausable? Are there really magic collages in D&D cities? Cheers. |
