A friend and I are planning on playing twin half-celestials in FR. Essentially, we're trying to convert an idea we never had the chance to play in normal DnD to our Forgotten Realms campaign. She's playing the obvious half-celestial, with the wings and angelic looks and all (she's a Bard), and I'm playing the less obviously celestial twin (Fighter in service to a temple).

However . . . In 3rd edition DnD, we didn't really have to worry about so many specific gods and patrons and such. We had intended to play daughters of one of the "angel"-like celestials from Monster Manuel. We're both relatively new FR players (longtime basic, though) and so neither of us are sure if those same celestials even exist in Forgotten Realms.

So I'm basically asking two questions:

1- Is is possible to be descended from the same celestials, and if not, who/what would we be descended from?

2- How should we deal with patrons? Should it still be based off of alignment and character class, or because of our holy heritage should it be different?

I'd like to hear your opinions; I'm sure most of you know more about this than I do.

Do you mean the same celestials as in the MM, or that both of you are descended from the same celestial type? Both are possible, anyway. All the monsters from the MM can be used in Forgotten Realms, since the setting has a lot in common with the general D&D setting. And it's of course very well possible to be decended from both Hound Archons for example. In Races of Faerun, I believe stood a list with different physical traits that are usual for which celestial the Aasimar is decended from. Same with Tiefling and the demons/devils...

2- How should we deal with patrons? Should it still be based off of alignment and character class, or because of our holy heritage should it be different?

Patron as in deity you mean? You don't even have to base it on class or alignment, but you could very well base it on portfolio. One of my rogues took Tempus as a deity once, just because he was slightly more aimed towards fighting. Anyway, with the Aasimar there are no further restrictions than any other race.

Have fun playing! :)

Thanks tons for interpreting my not-so-clear questions... You answered all of them. I'm very grateful for the aid.
