Shepard 04-30-07, 10:54 PM	I am making this character but i need a little help on the back story. im stuck on how he was created because mind flayers insert the larvae into the brains of the host. my origanal thought was to have te doppleganger be disguised as a human but mind flayers can read minds. So what should I do
Aaarrrgh 05-01-07, 04:53 AM	Mind flayers are often experimenting to create new, improved Mind flayers. Inserting a larva into a doppelganger seems very logical, considering the potential a such being would have.
kadeity 05-04-07, 11:39 PM	this is a fun thing to do. one of my BEST villains is a half-illithid doppleganger, illithid savant, warshaper. he was initially a doppleganger villain who was the loyal right hand of an aboleth villain i had. I called him "The Nameless". He was a foil for my pc's off and on for a long time, though they never really knew it, because he was a doppleganger. Eventually however he betrayed the aboleth, and replaced him as head of a crime syndicate that made most of its money in an underground slave trade. However he was posing as a human for this whole time, and so was widely believed to be human. through the vast resources of his new position he learned a great deal about a commune of flayers that was encroaching on his dominance of the slave trade, and resolved to whipe them out. eventually, the flayers planted a spy in his syndicate with the intent planting a tadpole in the human leader's mind, thinking he would become an illithi, and that they would be taking control of the syndicate by replacing its leader with mindflayer of their own ilk. what ended up happening however, is that because of his bizzare phisiology, halfway through the cerebremorphosis process, the tadpole died. He was never going to become a true mind flayer, as he was not a true human, but something strange occured. The nameless doppleganger gained all the benefits of the half illithid template, and was still, mentally, himself. He could not however remain in control of the syndicate, as the crime lords cast him out, and took all of his riches. he swore vengance, just before faking his own death. Now he is a low ranking slave trader and supplier of underground drugs in the major human city, though he is posing as a half elf. He is actually a member of that same syndicate, and is wokring his way through the ranks, eating the brains of and replacing as many ranking officers as he can. The syndicate is none the wiser, thinking it is the work of the mindflayers who they are at war with, all the while totally unaware that "The Nameless" is quietly reaping his revenge. anyway, thats how i did it :D
