I'll start with his story. I had his stats and everything statted up, but I can't find the character sheet I had. Oh well. OK, he started out just a simple, young halfling from a particular community, who lived the traditional halfling style of nomadism. He lived the start of his life just enjoying himself and everything else, wanting to see the world. The only thing very notable about him was that he had always had a very good rapport with animals and creatures of the wild, even for halflings. One day, when his group had decided to settle down at this lovely glade for a few days to rest, he heard something from a ways out in the forest. No one else seemed to be able to hear it, but it didn't seem malevolent or dangerous, so he went to investigate. He had to travel quite a ways out to find it, but as evening came on, he did find it. It was a Lammasu, badly wounded and dying. He tried to patch it up to save it, but it told him that there was no point. It would die from these wounds. It told him, though, that he could do something for him. Always having been a friend to creatures of the wild and of nature, he agreed, if the Lammasu would explain what he had to do. The Lammasu then explained of the power of Incarnum, and of the Totemists who wield the souls of the wild. He agreed, and stayed with the Lammasu until noon the next day, when it breathed it's last. As soon as its final breath was out, he could feel it's soul swirling around him. Almost without effort, he formed it into the Lammasu Mantle, his first soulmeld, and one which he has never been without since. He made his way back to where his family had settled down, confident they hadn't left yet, only to find a slaughter. Ever single one of them had been slain, corpses scattered across their temporary settlement, with Ghouls feeding on their corpses. Needless to say, he went a little wild at that point. When he finally came to his senses, all the Ghouls were slaughtered, and he was left alone. He determined that it had been a Vampire who lead the raid, as several of the corpses of his friends and family had been drained dry of all their blood, but were otherwise untouched. Ever since, he has spent his life hunting Undead, with a particular vendetta against Vampires. Around a year after that, as he was traveling, he came across another glade, which also bore traces of Ghouls having fed on creatures recently. He began to seek out those Ghouls. Before finding them, he encountered a Soulborn, who had been hired by a nearby village to do exactly what he was doing. Find the nest of Ghouls that had been plaguing the village, and destroy them. They decided to work together, since they had the same goal in mind. When they found the nest, he was amazed at how the Soulborn used the powers of Incarnum against the ghouls. They seemed to shrivel and whither away at the slightest touch from him! After clearing out the nest, he asked the Soulborn where he got those powers from, and eventually learned from him how to form the Armguards of Disruption, which he also always has formed, especially when he goes hunting for Undead. |

I would, instead of having my clan destroyed, go with having them saved by the a lammasu who weilded the powers of Incarnum. You were desperately fighting with them when it arrived and drove back the vampire. It may well have been badly or even fatally wounded defending your kin and in the time while your clan sought aid for it, it passed on to you some of its power having sensed a kindred spirit (that's not a pun I swear :P ). Perhaps help arrived too late or not at all. Perhaps those sent to get help were hunted by the very vamp he drove off in order to prevent help from being summoned. Either way you blame the undead monster for killing the magnificent creature who taught you your powers in the final days of its life. |

| Terjon of the Blue Rose11-24-07, 04:32 AM | Perfectly within reason. |
| Moosh Nailo11-25-07, 03:58 PM | Who says it has to have souldmelder levels at all? A little knowledge (incarnum), maybe this is its way of ensuring it is not forgotten/lost. |
| Aleolus11-25-07, 04:05 PM | Actually, according to Magic of Incarnum, "questions about Incarnum and soulmelds can be answered by Knowledge (Arcana) or by Knowledge (The Planes). Both skills cover this field of study, and thus are equally capable of answering questions regarding the mysteries of incarnum" (MoI, pg 33-34). So all it would need would be ranks in one of those, which I think Lammasu's have, going by the MM. |
