He could have felt his powers were limited by his lavished lifestyle and had to "purify" his magic by taking it back to the basics of nature. He always could just have no home to go back to. I have a tendency to kill off my characters' families. |

So perhaps you started your life as the son of a powerful lord, you always had a silver spoon (or would that be chop sticks?) in your mouth. But one day a Hermit came to town and you chanced a meeting with her. After only a few hours you fell in love with her philosophies and unique view of the world. After that you developed a habit of sneaking out and meeting with this hermit out in a near by forest. You would spend hours and hours with her; sharing your unique gifts of magic. After many years you proposed to her. She accepted and you were secretly wed by a wandering shaman. At first you tried to keep your marriage a secret, until your Father made a deal with another noble family which entailed, among other things, that you were to be wed to the daughter of that house. Unfortunately the customs in your town were such that you felt morally compelled to tell your father about your marriage to the Wu Jen. After a lengthy and violent verbal confrontation, you ran away; away to the safety of your wife's small house in the forest. Your father being the type of man he is, decided to hire assassins to follow you. They had orders to kill your wife and return you to your father. When the assassins descended upon the small house, the Wu Jen and yourself fought valiantly, but an errant arrow pierced her skull, killing her instantly. In a rage you slew the assassins with your most powerful Spells; spells your wife thought you. After you laid your wife to eternal rest, you ventured out, far, far away from the comfort of your family and the memories of your wife... |
