Healing cleric PC for "Against the Giants" [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-28-06, 01:38 AM My Paladin/Ranger/Stalker of Karrash died last session, and I'm bringing in a healing cleric for our group. But usually I think of fluff first then go for crunch. I'm not sure what to do here. We have mostly dwarves in our party, since we are going through the "Against the giants" series of modules.

This world uses the Norse(Asgardian) Pantheon. The DM has included the healing domain with Odur(god of the sun). So I want to play a cleric/radiant servant of Odur(using the radiant servant of pelor prc, and filing off the serial numbers).

My problem is that I don't know what race I want for this guy. I can't think of any neat ideas. If he's a dwarf, I'm thinking of playing him against stereotype. His god, Odur, is CG which is different from the stereotyped dwarf(LG, or LN).

Anyone have any ideas?

07-28-06, 03:37 AM Have you considered a gnome? No charisma penalty, which is nice for a turning-oriented type. They get the same anti-giant benefits as dwarves. It would also be kind of funny if he used "righteous might" and just to be medium :). Actually... I wonder if a gnome cleric can get away with "persistent righteous might" type cheese more easily than a medium guy, since running around all day as a 6-foot tall gnome is probably a lot easier than running around as a 11-foot tall human.

Not that he calls them that where they can hear. :D

07-31-06, 01:19 AM I decided to go with Dwarf instead of Gnome for the cleric. The majority of the party consists of dwarves. More dwarf-like roleplay will be interesting(4 dwarves, not counting cohorts)

There's a character in our group that is basicly "the dude" from The Big Lebowski. If you've seen the movie, I'm thinking of playing my character a bit like his friend Walter(played by John Goodman). Though I don't intend to be a carbon copy.

His background is in the military, a medic who was signed to a certain company. Giants have been plaguing the current campaign area for the last eight years, so I'm thinking my guy was a veteran before Giant occupation. Gruff type, though I'm CG so I'll not be too dark and broody. But he saw a lot of "good men die". Being a cleric of Odur(Norse god of freedom) he won't stand for the giant's oppression of the surrounding area.
