| shakespeare10112-21-07, 04:58 PM | Hi, This is my first posting on the development boards, but I was hoping for some character ideas on a warlock (lvl12). Campaign will be in Neverwinter. Character will be chaotic good as a Hellbred. I am thinking of a dark character that is trying to avoid succumbing to his nature as he knows where that leads having been there and done that. Prior to his transformation into a hellbred character I am suspecting he made a pact with a devil for his warlock powers and was able to weasel out of the contract over a technicality that gave him one more chance as a hellbred. His past is a bit of an enigma even to himself and as he travels the area, bits and pieces of his former life with little context flash before his eyes. At this point I am thinking he was a younger son of a noble family who slipped slowly down the path of evil in his quest for power, not directly thinking it was a quest for power, but instead seeking to excel over his elder siblings. He sought to achieve greatness and made poor bargains in an effort to do good. All the while doing little bits of progressively more evil deeds until he was slain and somehow....(no idea how) gets a second chance as a hellbred. any ideas would be helpful |

A noble paladin who seems to never fail in his duties, a mage of ostentatious power who holds as much political influence as he does arcane might. Perhaps even a court advisor who can easily acheive the ear of the king. In such a family success must be grandeous. You never acheived that kind of public fame and longed for it. After making your pact you grew ashamed of your methodology however and now seek to hide your connections to your family wanting not to sully their great name. A character looking for redemption who actually knows he slipped on the path to power and fame could make for a great roleplaying opportunity. |

Being the younger son of a noble family with little propects, he was offered a job by his brother as a city guard. One night while commiserating over a few drinks with a visiting bard over being the youngest son with few prospects, the bard asks him to arrange to leave a side gate open on his watch so the bard could meet a maid for a trist. In return the bard promises to share a secret of ancient power that would gain him the respect he deserves. What harm could come of the bard meeting a maid for a trist? One side gate left unguarded, what harm could come? It became known as the night of red tears as the heirs of Lord Nasher and his wife are slain. As the character realizes his folly, he takes his own life knowing he has brought down his family name and is responsibly for not guarding the innocents. He arrives in hell for punishment and demands the rite of trial. To represent him in his defense he asks for the kind old cleric who taught him and his brothers growing up. This cleric is an initiate of Mystra. Given that Mystra views all magic as her domain and feels it should be used as an aid to improve life, I suspect she might be a little upset with the contracts with devils and associated bargaining for power. Especially Hellfire warlock as the cost to use goes to Mestophales and not her. Sets a precedent she probably wouldn't favor. In an effort to show Mestophales that he will have to fight for the souls of hellfire warlocks with her, the character gets reborn as a Hellbred to get another shot at life to prove he is truly repentant. He is a warlock as the pact with Mestophales bard was still carried out, but every use of the hellfire ability comes with the cost of knowing he is sending power to Mestophales. Thoughts? |

Perhaps seeking an ancient, epic redemption spell which will allow him to not only change who he is but who he was... sort of aiming for a rebuild as PHB2? |
