| Drunk_Yoda07-23-06, 10:10 PM | I recently got tyred of my duskblade because he was the normal silent type big guy and he almost always killed first and asked questions later so he wasn't very role-playable, now I'm looking for a more role-playable character which is kind of a trickster. Right now I'm looking to flesh out the idea and then create write it in a pice of paper so I need help choosing his classes and feats ok, I have access to any book by WOTC. Name: Jeremia Tegler Race: Changeling Concept: He is a lier, thief and a magician, he is mixture of a Jack Sparrow meets Fizban (From the dragonlance chronicles) Background: He came from one of the poorest families in all of Sharn, his whole life he had to pretend he was someone else so that he could get what ever he wanted. He loved passing out as a noble child because people would give him thing he could latter on give to his family. As he grew up he lied his way through wizardry school until he finaly got out with honors, he changed the way he looked to obtain the tittle of the one who was the best. Now he decided to adventure because he got tired of the same place and the same lies, he is searching for wealth and fame, even if it is not made by him. Quote: "I'm not the guy who stole that, just because I wear the same clothes doesn't mean I did that." Traits: Physical: - He changes regulary his looks - He rarely changes his look to his normal self Mental: - He is a compulsive lier, he exagerates his deeds. - He regularly steals from every one - His magic is used to distract or protect him, just in case he has one or two attack spells Mechanic: I want him to be more of a magician than a theif, I was thinking of a Sorcerer/Rouge/Arcane trickster or something like that or a shadow adept. I don't want to make a begulier!!! I als what to fit in for the mage since my party is made of: Orc Barbarian 6, future eye of Grumsh. Human Cleric 6, she wants to become a radint servant of pelor. Human Knight 6, LE man who seeks to inflict terror on the lands. Fights a lot with the cleric Human Rouge 2/Ninja 4 our backstabing *ssh*l*, future assassin. My first feat is Jack of all trades. |
| R2-DS07-24-06, 01:05 AM | Sorcerer/ Swashbuckler/ Arcane Trickster Although you did say he graduated from a "wizards school" you may want to rethink the background or actually take levels of wizard. |
| Syltorian07-24-06, 10:55 AM | How about Spellthief (Complete Arcane) instead of Rogue? It will give you some more spells, as well as the sneak attack and things you need to qualify as an Arcane Trickster. If I remember correctly, that is. Could also explain how he got through wizard school - stealing the spells from his mates... |
| Radijs07-24-06, 11:12 AM | Sorceror/swashbuckler definately I like the concept very much. I'm gonna steal your concept, thats how much I like it. Spellthief is also a nice idea. You'd have to talk to your DM though if the stealing spells will advance from your levels in arcane trickster. A tip though: don't steal from the party. |
| Silver_Fox07-25-06, 04:58 AM | Although needing DM approval, the Chamelion PrC form RoD seems lika a good fit for you. Since Chamelion is for Humans or Doppelgangers, and changeling are Human/Doppelganges it's not much of a stretch Starting out with Spellthief fit's the bill, sneakiness and spells and all that. Otherwise you could go for Rogue/any caster to start with. |
| Joggernutt07-28-06, 12:28 AM | I would make him a bard and go the route of a spymaster, you get your bluff abilities, spells, and bardic knowledge can only help you more in the game of dealing information. Also you get a niice steady flow of skill pts and you dont step on the ninjas shoes by being a rogue as well. Also having words being your main weapon that screams a lot of roleplaying which is what you want. |
| JulesCARV07-28-06, 03:28 AM | Bard seems like the obvious choice. Chameleon is a possibility if you're willing to take "Able Learner" instead of "Jack of all Trades" as your level 1 feat. If don't mind your magical aspect being psionic instead of arcane, psychic rogue (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040723b) would work. Or a lurk, if you have that newfangled Complete Psionic, though I don't, and I've heard that lurks have a code of conduct, which may or may not contradict your changeling's behavior. |
| Sisyfos07-28-06, 05:59 AM | Chameleon. |
| Drunk_Yoda07-29-06, 09:35 PM | So I decided to go with Joggernutt's proposal of a bard and made a few changes to his background, he is now a former circus performer and later he became a gypsy kind guy who made a living out of it until he came into some troubles there for trouble is always at his path. Now I've got a problem with the spells, we are 6th level, I had choosen this: 0º Level: Detect magic Light Mage Hand Open/Close Read Magic Summon Instrument 1º Level: Friendly Face Hypnotism Silent Image Tasha's Hideous Laughter 2º Level: Enthrall Mirror Image(from the PHB) Mirror Image(from Spell Compendium) Does this sound like the kind of spells a guy who uses his spells to misslead his opponents and the people he wants to steal from??? |
| Rowan_Whispercloak07-30-06, 01:21 AM | How about beguiler. |
| Vermillion_Ruse07-30-06, 01:52 PM | I have a character who's similar to your concept in many ways. I started him as a rogue and put disportionate skill points over time into bluff, gather information, diplomacy, sense motive, etc. Basically, a con-artist. I didn't consider the magic angle at first. However, as the campaign moved forward, his experience with magic began to grow and the story pulledhim into spellcasting. Then I got a Players Handbook II and learned about the Begiuler. IMG! It's so him and so fun. He's "fights" primarily through tricks, intelligence, and illusionary magic. He also uses those skills as a spy. I wish I knew about this character class from the beginning and played him as a Beguiler all along. |
