I need help creating a NPC for a campaing I am running. Im not sure what levels to give the NPC. He is the leader of a relbelion that will hook up with the party as they try to over through the evil guy who has taken over the relm. his background is that he was a simple well liked guy and with all the bad stuff going around has taken up arms and is fighting to get the proper queen and prince back on the thrown (king was killed already).
He should be human about level 5-9. Im just not sure what classe or classes would be appropriate for him to take. any advice?

I would say a fighter or warrior with a nice charisma.

You say he is simple person so spell casting classes probably won't fly. If it takes place in a urban setting, chances are he isn't a barbarian or a ranger. He's probably not a monk, it would probably be a stretch to say he is a bard. He could be a rogue though.

So in conclusion I would stick to these classes when building: Fighter, Warrior, Expert, and Commoner. Their simple classes and it isn't much of a stretch to say the common Joe could have levels in them. Rogue is another possiblity but ranks lower.
