| Nonee10-15-05, 02:56 AM | This would be my first DnD character, and I just wanted some opinions before I start playing. Lemme know if I'm buggering something up here or if it's in violation of something or if it just plain needs work. All info helpful. :D (And I have nothing party-wise yet, so I'm not sure exactly why I joined or what we're doing.) ______ Jerun Malakian: Gnome Sorcerer Age: 55 Height:3’8” Weight:45 lbs Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Full Name: Jerun Farglen Tiddlydoo Namfuglins Barksap Treenall Marjekum Arsunine Callium Farfoole Marganit Drakum Fireboy Shelurian Mard Malakian Personality: Generally outgoing and personable, has several personal oddities. (Pyromania, gnome habit of naming things, mostly attracted to female Halflings) Loyal to his friends, but has few of them and is more prone to apathy. Familiar: Snake (corn snake, named Surta Embertwist, which he keeps constantly with him, and on him, often worn like an overly large orange scarf. She is nearly as long as he is tall.) His mother, Marfa Lemuriel Piddlyrak Janndrika Ra…. Well, she went by Marfa Farglen, and was more of a wandering spirit than the usual gnome. She settled in with a clan of nomadic Halflings, moving from place to place with them, and raising her son alongside with them. His name was Jerun Farglen, with his mother giving him only two names, so he would fit in better with the Halfling clan. Jerun never knew who his father was, and his mother refused to speak of him. She died of a wasting disease when he was still a young one, at the tender age of 18. The Halfling clan deemed it better to send the young boy to his mother’s clan than to raise him amongst themselves. Better to honor family ties, after all. Jerun did not fit in very well at his new home. For one thing, he initially was a bad speaker of the Gnome language, and had a great deal of schooling to catch up on. Not to mention the many names he suddenly received and were expected to know, as well as everyone else’s insanely long name. It was a definite culture shock, and his stand-offish manner in such new surroundings were interpreted by his peers as pride, resulting in numerous pranks. To this day still he is very touchy about being the butt of a prank, though he learned to brush it off in Gnome society. (Though he usually got back at the prankster in a fairly nasty, untraceable way, making him very good at pranks.) He grew quickly bored and frustrated in his new home. They weren’t very different from Halflings, but they did not move. He missed the wagons of his childhood. Eventually he adapted to his Clan, though never fully integrating. For starters, he had already had a reputation as a vagabond courtesy of his free-spirited mother, and his refusal to worship Garl Glittergold had offended more than a few. Beyond that, his aunt and uncle, with whom he lived, were genuinely worried by what eventually was recognized as the manifestation of his sorcerer powers. Generally without friends, he spent a good deal of time in the libraries, reading up on things that interested him, and doodling the things he saw. By age 38 he was ready to get the heck away from his clan, and left one night surreptitiously, leaving an apologetic note for his family and taking some food, coin and supplies into the night. Knowing little of his powers and trusting greatly to luck, he set off in search of the Halfling clan of his birth. Since then he has wandered aimlessly, picking up work where he could, and taking advantage of whatever opportunities made themselves available, or whatever seemed the most interesting. |

| Nonee10-15-05, 02:35 PM | wow, thanks everybody. ^^ I've RPed before online, on message board sites, but never done the whole DnD thing, so I've developed a few characters before. It'll be interesting to see how I do with all the math. :P His name for just getting around is Jerun Malakian, which actually isn't that inspired... I just took my favorite guy from System of a Down and buggered around a little with the first name. :D All the rest I kinda added on whim. Plus that 1001+ character quirks was inspiration hardcore... o.O |
| erbmjw10-15-05, 10:27 PM | I played a female hafling that had an attraction for Gnomes, through rolepaying myself and another player almost convinced the GM to let the character marry very high above my station to a member of Gnomish nobility .... then the campaign died. You've done a great job with the background - hope the game goes just as well. |
