I am working on a 5th level Sun Elf Duskblade for a Forgotten Realms game that takes place in the Sword Coast, probably starting in Baldur's Gate. My character concept is that he's a mercenary, radically different from the standard image of Sun Elves in Faerun. However, I'm having a ton of trouble coming up with a reason WHY he's like this. Since I'm playing a new class, the backstory idea for it in FR I came up with is that it's an offshoot of the Bladesingers, so I was thinking maybe that has something to do with his background? Maybe he was trained as a Bladesinger but rejected those ideas (perhaps the Bladesingers were more passive and defense-oriented, while he's aggressive and wants to bring the fight to his enemies), learned the ways of a Duskblade instead and cut off his ties to the Sun Elves (sort of a Jedi/Sith scenario, but not as extreme). I can't seem to come up with a more detailed reason, though.. but I need to have something that would make him not be reclusive like his kin and instead want to adventure; I'm thinking because people who would hire him as a mercenary appreciate his skills and WANT someone who is aggressive. I'm even going so far as to give him black hair (as opposed to the usual gold for sun elves) and golden eyes so he looks like a Sun Elf, but strangely different. As you can see, I have the bare bones but I need some help fleshing it out further... anyone have any advice or suggestions?? |

The best way to find them is to join their underground merc world and search them out... Or, he could have been raised by humans...we adopt anything (Warf). Or, he could be trying to find the true essence of the Blade Singer/Duskblade...he could believe that elves lost the martial/magical marriage they once had, and he could be travelling to get it back. $$ is always a good motivator if all else fails. |
