| Sigga Vogel10-10-05, 10:32 AM | My female human paladin has just made 9th level and I took leadership has a feat. Now I need help with a name for my cohort and followers. I am looking for Germanic/Norse name also. Any Ideas? |
| Fithero10-10-05, 10:54 AM | Perhaps a bard of sorts (or the savage bard from UA, or one with the scald prc) to sing songs of the paladins bravery. Or perhaps a valkyre? is that norse/viking? i think it is anyway, just have her have this female fighter with maxed out archery or something, thats cool... i think. Later |
| erbmjw10-10-05, 12:32 PM | what deity does she follow? What are the deity's domains? This would help with both the cohort and the followers. I do like Fithero's idea of the bard - though I would like to know more abut your character. |
| Sigga Vogel10-11-05, 11:16 AM | She follows Odin and we have a bard already named celador a half-elf. Odin's domains are knowledge and war that I can remember. We are temporarily calling ourselves the Crusaders but I am looking for a dynamic name since we have four characters who follow the norse dieties. |
| Breetai10-11-05, 02:44 PM | The Seekers of Valhalla, Warriors of Odin, Odin's Fist, Odin's Sword, the eye of Odin. You know something along the lines of followers of norse dieties actively and fearlessly trying to get into the afterlife of fallen heros and warriors. But I think "the eye of Odin" has the best ring to it. Then again there is another posibility. The fact that she is a female warrior of legend is something to be said amongst the norse dieties. Maybe simply calling her and her group "The Valkyre" might be a good way to go and also has a nice ring to it. Granted Valkyre simply means woman warrior but when people say "THE Valkyre" it's understood that theyre talking about your paladin and her crew. Of course this would not be a name that she "choose" it's just what she uis called. The Valkarye is comming! that kind of stuff. |
| haramiz10-11-05, 03:00 PM | Maybe I can help, you told that you're looking for a Germanic/Norse name, I'm Brazilian, maybe some names in portuguese would help ya. Crusados - Crusaders Comitiva da Fé - Fellowship of Faith Seguidores de Odin - Fellowrs of Odin Tell me with like the idea, than I can think in more names and translate it. |
| Lhiannon Sidhe10-11-05, 09:59 PM | Here's a few Old Norse/Icelandic women's names. Being a fantasy character, you probably don't need a historically accurate name, but you might be able to derive one of your own based on the "style" of Norse names: Amma Asa Birla Birna Dissa Dyrhildr Esja Eyja Fasta Freydis Ginna Gisla Halla Hrefna Isibel Ingleif Jodis Jora Kara Kristin Lina Ljufa Mabil Mjoll Nauma Nereior Oddkatla Osk Ragna Runa Salvor Sissa Tola Totra Unnr Ursula Valdis Vigdis Ynghildr Yrsa As well, chances are her surname would be: <Father's given name>dottr. In old Norse culture many children took their father's name as their own. If a Norseman named Ulf had a son and a daughter named Abel and Hilda for example, their full names would be Abel Ulfsen and Hilda Ulfsdottr. |
| erbmjw10-12-05, 07:34 AM | If all of your followers were female you could call your group Daughters of Battle OR WarMaidens of Odin OR WarMaidens of Knowledge ( war and knowledge based group of followers ) Quick question - what is Odin's favoured weapon? If I remember the myths correctly it should be a spear, so you could also try Scholars of the Spear You could even make an exception for the cohort being male if you wanted to - that might even cause some tension for your followers That way your GM would also be able to use as a nickname for you and your group - you could be "The Valkarye" and your less puratanical followers could be "Valkarye's Vixens" :D You then get to play the character as either liking one or both nicknames. |
| Mags10-12-05, 10:21 AM | There are a few good name generators online. You can try: www.babynamer.com (No, seriously). Try searching by namesake and/or origin language. or http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/ Look for the standard fantasy name generator most of the way down the page. |
| Gingerbread Guy10-12-05, 06:17 PM | I'm running a game set in Asgard right now, actually, and I'm picky about nomenclature. I did some research, and the best site I found was this: http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/ONNames.htm Its a very detailed description of authentic Old Norse nomenclature. It includes a mammoth list of female names, which is found here: http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/ONWomensNames.htm ~Ginger |
| Sigga Vogel10-15-05, 12:51 AM | I have submitted the names to my DM and he's pondering them now, I have plans on opening a church for warriors dedicated to odin/norse deities. The eye of odin and seekers of vahalla really ring. My character now is an extension of my high school character named Traugett Vogel. when I got out of the army my friends wanted to play their sons so I told them that Traugett had a daughter which threw them for a loop. then I decided to role play a paladin since Traugett was a fighter. the one catch is Traugett vogel's father is odin so Sigga vogel grandad is odin. we play on the old greyhawk map and learning 3.5 from the original 1st edition was no small feat. So I really appreciate your help btw I'm 43 and we play on weekends and use our vacation time to play also. God bless my lovely wife for being so understanding. I'd love to also play in your vahalla campaign. I live in Texas. |
