I'm having trouble with some background details for a Frenzied Berserker I'm making for an Evil Campaign. He's a Half-Blue Dragon/Human, Neutral or Neutral Evil. I've got two things that need reconciling. (Yes, everyone in the group knows I'm making a FB and is okay with it.)

I wanted to make him not so much a frenzied destroyer, as just someone who wants to be left alone. In fact, his primary goal (I'm thinking) Is to find a place where he can be left alone. He's not adverse to killing people who gets in his way, but prefers not to as it only attracts more attention. The fact that he Frenzies doesn't help the matter.

The other thing that I was thinking is that his dad did something to his mother early in his life that made him foolish enough to take on his dad (The Dragon). Thus getting him beat to within an inch of his life and being left for dead. So now he seriously wants to take him down, and starts working to get stronger. But thing about this, that you don't break an omlets without cracking a few eggs, right? So that would entail hunting more (possibly good dragons) And going more towards Dragon Hunter from Draconomicon.

Any thoughts?

Wrong forum and to be a FB you have to be chaotic.

Wrong forum

no its not... (you are right about him having to be chaotic though)

see?

Now, as for the character, why does he want to be left alone? Since he is evil, i dont think its because he is scared of hurting others. Is it because he knows that he hurts others and this causes trouble for him? Or does he just hate everything to such a degree that if he doesnt seperate himself from it, he will flip out and try and destroy it?

As for the dragon hunter idea, its pretty cool, but the class isnt really needed, he could just be a there are plenty of dragon slayers who dont take that class. (also, if your gonna take FB, take all 10 levels... just my op though)

So what i can gather is that he wants to be left alone to slay his father. What do you think he will do after that?

Hope this helps some.

Frenzied Berserzer is only Any Nonlawful, unless I missed an Errata?

Edit: And I'm thinking more he wants to slay his father first and then be left alone. I'm thinking he wants to be left alone because he wants to lie low forever, if possible. Too and too bad of a reputation.

And I just had a great idea. Remember that guy from Record of Lodoss War: Chronicle of the Heroic Knight, Orin, I think? The one that had the spirit of the berserker demon in him? It could be like that for this character. He's taken on something beyond his control unconsentingly as a price for seeking power to defeat his dad. Then when his dad is dead, he may start wanting control over himself back. Retraining anyone?

Actually he's wrong on both counts, FBs need only be nonlawful.

As for your character, it looks to be a fun idea, especially with the frenzied spirit. As for the retraining idea, I don't really like the idea of planning a character who will be retrained. I feel retraining's mostly for bad mistakes in creation. Also, it might be more fun if he keeps all the berzerker levels, just when he takes control back he forces the evil power deep into him, only to come out in the deep madness of a massive, violent conflict.

Just my take

1st off, it's great that your party will let you be a FB. Second, I don't feel like looking up every rule, so forgive me if I make a mistake. 3rd, you'll need your GM's help, so talk to him.
now I like contraditions. But this works. Most people have life plans. Sometimes you're just missing a step. Here's how I see your guys list:
0. Where you are.

1. Kill Dad (and marry mom. Whoops, wrong guy. Or is it, Freud?)

2. Find nice place to retire.

Now, assume your FB has at least 10 Int, or found an evil cleric to give him life advice. You could skip 1, but then you won't be happy. How do you get from 0 to 1? You get allies (adventure party) You learn about dragons [a few skill points in Knowledge: Arcana IIRC, which is probably a cross class skill, but to roleplay and Speak/ Read Draconic (sic?)] You get items to help kill dad, like Energy resist: electictity for armor (or do you get that auto?) A Dragon Bane weapon, stuff like that. You get tougher (adventuring). You find out where the hey he is. Your GM will probably make him a BBEG.

So someday you get strong enough, track down and kill Dad. On to 2. This is easy to roleplay, just travel through some ungodly desert or whatever, stop at an oasis for the night, and the next morning tell the party, "It's been great, but I'm staying here." Roll up a new character and meet them in the next town.

But the thing with life plans is they change. If you don't want to retire the character, don't. Maybe your PC enjoy adventuring, or at least hacking stuff up. Maybe he doesn't want to leave the party. Whatever. Well, have fun.

PS I agree with Fithero about the Dragon slayer class.

To comment again on this:

Yes, Half-Dragons get the energy immunities of their Draconic parent.

Also, I've pretty much decided that he's going to want vengance on his dad for killing his mom (for whatever reason, maybe his mom is one of his few conquests that got away, and his dad hadn't tracked him down until then?)

Actually, right now i have a character sort of like this, half blue dragon goliath barb 13/Frb 11. He wanted to be left alone for a while, until he really started to like his adventuring party, and still wants to retire. So the way I'm working it is, he'll stay with them until I come up with a better idea lol, or when they all break up he will move into a small house no one knows about to avoid hurting more ppl(good not evil).
So that could help you with the last part. For killing the dragon i would put some ranks into knowledge(dragon), or knowledge(arcana) if your DM doesnt use knowledge(dragon). And learning Draconic is just cool. Also you might want to buy a dread(dragon) weapon(epic handbook).[it does 4d6 against the selected type, gains an additional +4 enhancement bonus and on a crit they must make fortitude save 27 or die] I got one for my character, still havent been able to use it on the type, but thats what I get for going for flavor rather than optimization.
Oh and say your goodbyes before you go, because chances are unless your epic you will not kill the dragon on your own and live(:Ddeathless frenzy). Which I imagine you want to do.

Hmm... if you play a goliath half-dragon, would it be munchkinish to say that the "powerful build" trait means that they can count as large for the purposes of having wings? I don't know about you, but I've always wanted to roleplay a flying character, and the sheer monstrous havoc possible with a flying frenzied barb bears thinking about.

Yes, because it tells you exactly what powerful build does. My DM wouldn't let me and I wouldn't have let me if I were him either. Although it would have been AWESOME.
