i want to make a dwarven ranger and i dont want to use the parents death as a storyline i think its overdone. however i want him to have a lofty goal so i was thinking about having him being exiled and he wants to start his own clan. how would the normal society handle that? my friend also wants to make an inventor gnome that makes odd and humorous weapons like a crossbows that launch shortswords or daggers. so any ideas on how we can tie our stories together? also feats and animal companion ideas would be nice i dont know what my ranger would pick, i wanted something subterranean.

Hi,
I'm new to all this but I love to play. I only have 1 PC,the Mrs. but our gameplay takes us strange places.
Anyway, how about this ? Your character meets a Dwarven Defender who charges him with a noble quest. He could meet the gnome inventor later on in a scenario of your choosing. Feats from the Players Handbook can be modified to fit the subterranean setting.
Just some ideas, hope they help.Happy gaming.

Some capitals would be nice. :D

When you say normal society, do you mean normal human/intergrated society? or "normal" dwarven society? Because obviously the dwarves wouldn't be too happy with that, and other people would like not understand exactly what he's trying to do, really depends on your DM's setting though.

As for tying your stories together it would probably be pretty easy, both are subterranean races and would have plenty of oppurtunity to meet.

Good luck on your character!

Perhaps your dwarf ranger rescued the gnome from kobolds while he was underground testing out his latest (possibly failure of an) invention, the pogo-pick.
